Baseball’s transcendent moment

Even if you don’t follow baseball, you may have heard this story.
On June 2, Detroit Tigers journeyman pitcher Armando Galarraga – whose 21-18 career record is hardly spectacular – was one out away from the rarest of baseball achievements:  the so-called “perfect game.”  Twenty-seven up, and 27 down. It has been done only 20 times in baseball history.

Baltimore’s Bergesen glorifying God

 

Brad Bergesen crumpled to the dirt, face down and motionless. It wasn’t the pain, per se. It just happened so quickly, he needed a few moments to collect himself.

The ball had smashed into Bergesen’s left shin and careened into the infield grass, where the catcher scooped it up and threw to first base for the third out of the inning. Bergesen, a young right-hander for the Orioles, popped up and trotted to the dugout – propelled by adrenaline more than the assurance that everything was fine.

Carl Foster recently interviewed Bucky Dent, a two-time World Series Champion— MVP, three-time All-Star Shortstop, Babe Ruth Award winner,  and owner of Bucky Dent Baseball School in Delray BeachInter.

CF—Let’s start with the roots of Bucky Dent. Growing up in Hialiah, Fl, and influenced early on by a group like The Fellowship of Christian Athletes. How did you get started in sports overall?
