Lessons from the great recession
Recently on MoneyLife, Crown Financial Ministries’ nationally syndicated radio program, I had the opportunity to talk with a few of our 10,000-plus Facebook fans.
We had posted the question, “What have you learned from the Great Recession?” and many Crown fans contributed to the online discussion. I’d like to share with you a few of their responses, compiled by our program writer Jim Henry.
Don’t waste this recession!
We all know times are tough. The perfect storm of a bursting economic and housing bubble, a normal business cycle downturn, the subprime mortgage scandal and a presidential election year have all led to dire predictions, hopelessness and desperate measures.
Most people ask, “Where is it all going?” but the better question is, “What is God’s purpose in this recession?
Can the recession cause you to pack on the pounds?
Consumers are used to buying cheap cereals and processed foods in order to save money. And in the midst of a recession, this unhealthy habit may seem more crucial than before. But, the reality is that these are the very foods that are causing obesity, inflammation and sickness.
According to some nutrition experts, a recession can make you fat, but if you get the junk out of your kitchen and start buying healthy food, any extra money spent will even itself out. And you’ll become healthier, too.
