DESCRIPTION:Food For The Poor (FFTP)\, 6401 Lyons Road\, Coconut Creek will host Food For The Poor Day on May 7 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. \nThe community is invited to join the charity for a celebration of faith and optimism. \nThe festive day will be filled with various activities\, starting with a prayer service open to all from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the Prayer Room of FFTP’s Coconut Creek headquarters. \nFollowing the service\, guests will have an opportunity to tour the building and warehouse at 10 a.m.\, 1 p.m.\, or 3 p.m. During these tours\, they also will have the chance to pack disaster hygiene kits for Haiti or try on a virtual reality headset and transport themselves to one of the countries where FFTP helps people in need. \nThe highlight of Food For The Poor Day will be the release of Glacia Robinson’s latest album\, “Hands of Mercy.” Fifty percent of proceeds from the album will go to support FFTP programs. \nA reception for guests to mix and mingle with FFTP’s leadership team will begin at 6 p.m. in the FFTP lobby prior to the album release and concert. \nRobinson will perform songs from the album in FFTP’s Prayer Room at 7 p.m. The songs were written and inspired by Robinson’s experiences with FFTP. \nJoining Robinson in this special performance will be the Cason Kids Chorus from Cason United Methodist Church in Delray Beach\, Fla.\, and FFTP’s own CRUSE Tones band\, adding their voices to the evening of celebration. \nTo RSVP for any of the activities\, visit foodforthepoor.org/fftpday.

DESCRIPTION:Joe’s Stone Crab\, 11 Washington Avenue\, Miami Beach will be hosting Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s 13th Annual “Claws for Kids” in memory of Judy Kramer on May 7 at 11 a.m. \nThe event will kick off with a cocktail reception at 11 a.m.\, followed by lunch at noon. Guests will enjoy delicious stone crabs and Joe’s other signature items without the wait. The fundraising lunch is one of the last chances to enjoy stone crabs before stone crab season ends. \nMother and daughter duo\, Lisa Mendelson and Lindsey Mendelson Pearson\, are co-chairing this year’s event once again. Olga Guilarte is the Special Event Chair. \n“Claws for Kids” is held in memory of Judy Kramer\, a longtime Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade Board member\, who helped create the event and chaired it since its inception until her passing in 2021. \nProceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s crucial programs and services at its six Clubs and sites combined including its educational after school programs\, tutoring and homework assistance\, STEM\, recreation\, dance\, arts and crafts\, mentoring and summer and athletic programs. These programs help children realize their full potential as productive\, caring and responsible citizens. \nBoys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade supporters who cannot attend the event can still enjoy Joe’s famous stone crabs at home or on a date of their choice with the purchase of a gift card\, just in time for Mother’s Day.
