The 51st annual Fort Lauderdale Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will take place on March 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center. This much-anticipated annual event will draw hundreds of business professionals, ministry leaders and elected officials together to pray for the strength of the city, break bread together, and unite under the banner of godly tradition. This year’s featured speakers will be international evangelists Luis and Andrew Palau, who are returning to Fort Lauderdale 10 years to the day after their 2003 Beachfest evangelistic outreach that drew a crowd of over 300,000.
Over 800 area faith-based leaders are expected to attend this event. The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast committee shares on the event website, ftlpray.org, “Join as we gather to pray for our leaders, our neighbors and our country….and as we reminisce on 51 years of tradition, reflect on our needs and blessings for today, and look ahead to the future of our great city.”
Committee member Grif Blackstone, President of Blackstone Media Group, shares, “Year after year, the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast has been an event that our community really values and looks forward to. We are even more excited this year with the involvement of the Palau’s. This is an event you won’t want to miss.”
Community leader and event organizer Stephan Tchividjian of the Christian Community foundation adds, “The opportunity to bring the community together and celebrate past successes, embrace the now and imagine the future is a privilege that we can easily take for granted. I am excited to see churches, business leaders, city officials and others celebrating our city and how it’s been blessed by God. Our hope and prayer is that we will see our city through the eyes of God, and that we will be a city that reflects that character and heart of God”
Luis Palau and his ministry have shared the gospel with more than 1 billion people through evangelistic events and media. He has spoken in person to 25 million people in 72 countries with more than 1 million registered decisions for Jesus Christ. He has authored close to 50 books and countless articles on issues of faith, and has counseled with business and political leaders and heads of state around the world.
Luis’ son Andrew joined his father in ministry nearly 20 years ago, and now preaches at his own festivals around the world from the United States to Rwanda, Romania, Egypt, Mexico, India, Poland, and Jamaica. He has shared the gospel with millions of people, and demonstrates his father’s same passion and love for Christ and for evangelism. In 2009, he joined Luis on his radio feature, Reaching Your World with Luis Palau. Andrew’s two-minute messages are broadcast on 855 radio outlets around the globe every Friday.
Both father and son developed a heart for Fort Lauderdale in the years of planning, preparation and prayer leading up to Beachfest in 2003. Many lives were touched and changed through Beachfest, and the Palau’s are excited to be back in the city to see all that God has done in the past 10 years.
As a part of the event initiative, The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast committee has also launched a “51 Days of Prayer” campaign leading up to the event. Area pastors and leaders have written prayers for the city that are posted each day at the ftlpray.org website and shared via Twitter and Facebook.
For those interested in attending the breakfast, tickets are available at ftlpray.org/rsvp. Registrants can either sponsor a table for $300 or purchase individual seats for $35 each.
