If you have been searching for a culinary treasure, I just happened to discover the crown jewel in the heart of Broward County. The Mustard Seed Bistro, located in Plantation, is a connoisseur’s delight and is owned by Tim and Lara Boyd. This restaurant is anything but cookie cutter – and it is no longer necessary to drive down to the beach in order to experience innovative, fine dining. The bistro is the Boyd’s fourth eatery and the name behind it possesses as much reflection and significance as each work of genius that is on the menu. Tim shared why he chose this particular name for the restaurant (which also happens to be their logo), stating, “The mustard seed is the smallest seed in the world and yet it grows into a large tree, where the doves can take safety and refuge.” The tree represents the restaurant and it is a refuge for all – both staff and guests alike – who Tim and Lara pour their faith and love into.

Tim, a graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, has worked for numerous top restaurants across the United States and also opened Eccentric – Oprah Winfrey’s restaurant in Chicago. Tim is truly an artist who loves to go into the kitchen, scan his palette and then take a little of this and a bit of that to create a sumptuous masterpiece  – one that is both stunning to the eyes through its presentation and offers a phenomenal experience for the taste buds. For guests who are willing to allow Tim free rein, he will custom-create a variety of incredible courses based upon their preferences.

Our starting appetizer course included Crispy Brussel Sprouts ($9) which were roasted and then saut
