Highlands Christian Academy is pleased to announce that Jenna Pirrie, a former student intern at The Good News of Florida, was recently named as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).

As one of only 8,000 finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, Jenna is in a very select group. Nearly 1.5 million high school juniors were tested last year by the NMSP.

Jenna, a senior at Highlands with a GPA of 4.5 on a 4.0 scale, plans to pursue an education in journalism and communications at either Wheaton College or Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Both institutions have accepted Jenna for the fall semester.

During the summer of 2008, Jenna interned at The Good News writing News articles – including a front page story – as well as assisting with research and administrative work.

Jenna has attended Highlands since fifth grade.

“Jenna is appreciated as one of the finest students we have seen at HCA,” said Ken Lopez, headmaster at Highlands.

“Jenna sets a great example to the entire school family in her Christian walk and her personal testimony. She is involved in a number of community service projects, and she also had the opportunity to intern at The Good News Newspaper,” added Lopez. “Partnerships like this between our students and community organizations – and the experience they provide – are vital to preparing our students for the future.”

Currently, Jenna is involved in her high school drama Life group, is editor of the yearbook, will be performing in a spring musical and is looking forward to her senior trip to China.

The Good News would also like to congratulate Jenna on her fine achievement!
