DESCRIPTION:Food For The Poor (FFTP) will be hosting a special prayer service for Haiti at Parkridge Church\, 5600 Coral Ridge Drive\, Coral Springs on April 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. \nThe event will bring together clergy\, parishioners\, and dignitaries who will collectively lift their voices in an expression of hope for peace in the troubled nation. \nThe event will include updates from Mario Nicoleau\, CEO of Food For The Poor-Haiti\, and from the Bitar brothers\, physicians at Bernard Mevs Hospital in Port-au-Prince\, who prefer not to use their first names. Nicoleau and the Bitar brothers are among the many Haitians now stranded in the United States because they are unable to secure a flight back home. \nIn addition to updates from the Bitar brothers and Nicoleau\, Friday’s event will include brief words of encouragement from Pastor Eddie Bevill\, of Parkridge Church\, and Pastor Dr. Keny Felix\, President of the Southern Baptist Convention National Haitian Fellowship\, as well as a performance by the Redemption Baptist Church Choir\, of Pompano Beach\, Fla. The contents of each kit will include: \n  \n•     Vegetable oil\, one 48-ounce bottle \n•     Corn meal\, one 24-ounce bag \n•     Parboiled rice\, one 5-pound bag \n•     Elbow pasta\, one 16-ounce bag \n•     Tuna\, four 5-ounce cans \n•     Red beans\, four 15.5-ounce cans \n•     Mixed vegetables\, two 15-ounce cans \n•     Peaches\, two 14- to 15-ounce cans \n  \nAll items must be purchased new\, with at least a one-year expiration date from Dec. 3\, the day of the event. \n  \nDonors can purchase the items in person and bring them to the FFTP warehouse before the event or buy them online via AmazonSmile or Walmart For Good and ship them directly to the warehouse. \n  \nThe event is a pilot project to help FFTP develop a new program for churches\, businesses\, groups and organizations that wish to support the charity’s work by purchasing items and hosting packing events at their facilities. Eventually\, groups will be able to host their own packing event using boxes\, marketing materials and packing instructions provided by FFTP. DESCRIPTION:Food for the Poor\, 6401 Lyons Road\, Coconut Creek will be holding its Honoring Our Veterans Community Day Event on November 11 from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. \nThe special day will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at the charity’s Coconut Creek headquarters\, 6401 Lyons Road\, with a half-hour program recognizing members of local veterans organizations as well as FFTP team members who have served. \nArmy Col. J. Frank Melgarejo Jr.\, Chief of the Theater Civil Affairs Planning Team South at United States Southern Command\, a longtime FFTP partner\, will be the keynote speaker. Other guests include Coconut Creek Police Sgt. Raphael Marin\, a military veteran\, who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. \nAt 11:15 a.m.\, guests will move to the charity’s warehouse to pack hygiene kits that will go to poverty-stricken families in the countries FFTP serves and to help veterans in need in South Florida. \nDuring the 90-minute packing session\, volunteers will fill the kits with basic necessities – soap\, deodorant\, toothbrushes and toothpaste – items that most people take for granted every day but are desperately needed by children and families in times of crisis. \nRegister to attend the program or to volunteer for the packing event by visiting www.FoodForThePoor.org/veterans.

DESCRIPTION:Food For The Poor and Hope for Haitians will be holding An Evening in the Tropics event at The Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Club\, 5151 Guilford Rd\, Rockford\, IL 61107 on August 27 from 6 – 9 p.m. \nFunds raised at this event will support the construction of a village in Acul-Samedi\, located in the commune of Fort-Liberté. There will also be a dinner and silent auction. \nCelebrating 20 years of providing hope for Haiti\, this life-changing effort aims to provide safe\, secure homes with proper sanitation for 75 families. Each household will receive a solar kit to supply nighttime lighting\, energy\, and security. \nThe community will receive two water wells and two water treatment systems\, and 15 solar-powered streetlights will be installed to light the streets at night.
