NASHVILLE– Dr. David W. Clark, president of Palm Beach Atlantic University, is the 2009 recipient of the prestigious William Ward Ayer Distinguished Service Award given by the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) at their national convention held recently in Nashville.
“I have had the wonderful privilege of serving the Lord in many aspects of Christian broadcasting over the years,” said Dr. Clark in accepting the award. “I am deeply honored by this award in the name of William Ward Ayer, one of the pioneers and founders of NRB.”
A pioneer broadcaster and pastor, William Ward Ayer was NRB’s first president. Instrumental in the formation of the Association, Ayer drafted the Code of Ethics that formed the basis of the evangelical response to the radio networks’ threat against religious broadcasting in the 1940s. According to the NRB, the award is presented to a Christian individual or organization of excellence and integrity, and recognizes his or her outstanding and significant contribution to the field of Christian communications. A member of the NRB board of directors for 30 years, Dr. Clark served two 3-year terms as chairman and also as treasurer. He launched and raised money for the Legal Defense Fund and served as chair of every major committee of NRB.
Dr. Clark’s extensive work in the communication field includes vice president of marketing for CBN, founding dean of the College of Communication at Regent University, vice president of media for the Southern Baptist Convention in North America, president of KMC Media and president of FamilyNet. While at FamilyNet he executive-produced dozens of television and radio programs, including the Emmy Award-winner “We Shall Not be Moved” for ABC Television and the Hallmark Channel. Dr. Clark also has appeared on many television programs, such as the “Today Show,” to discuss Christian broadcasting.
The National Religious Broadcasters is the preeminent association of Christian communicators with a mission to keep the doors of electronic media open for the spread of the Gospel, which promotes standards of excellence, integrity and accountability. NRB provides networking, educational Life and fellowship opportunities for its members.
