Teen Resources

Today’s teens are bombarded with media that encourages them to live anything but a Christian life. Where can they find media sources that will challenge and inspire them to be more like Christ and that will connect them with other like-minded teens? The following resources include magazines, podcasts, websites and apps that provide Christ-centered encouragement, advice, and more.

Magazines
Susie magazine, from Susie Shellenberger, the creator of BRIO Magazine, features much of the same content as BRIO once did, including devotionals and advice about girls’ daily lives and spiritual walk. More info can be found at susiemagazine.com.

FCA Magazine is published bi-monthly by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is packed with the testimonies and stories of Christ-following athletes and coaches from a variety of sports. For more info, go to fcagear.com.

Media Reviews
If you’re debating seeing a newly-released movie or wondering what the latest pop hit’s lyrics really mean, Focus on the Family’s PluggedIn.com features reviews written from a Christian perspective on the latest movies, videos, music, television shows and games.

The Christian Spotlight on Entertainment also features reviews of movies and games from a Christian perspective. You can even become involved on the website by becoming a movie commentator, movie reviewer and game reviewer. For more info, visit christiananswers.net/spotlight.

John Piper, the author of over 20 books, including Desiring God, strives to “spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ” through his Desiring God Podcast. Podcasts of his sermons can be downloaded for free on iTunes.

Forums
Online forums are places where ideas and perspectives on various issues can be exchanged. Christianteenforums.com allows teens to ask questions, post and receive tips and advice, post prayer requests and more under headings for different categories.

The “Rebelution” is a movement again low expectations begun by Alex and Brett Harris, the authors of Do Hard Things. On their website, it says, “In 1 Timothy 4:12, the Apostle Paul tells Timothy, ‘Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.’ In other words, as young people we are called to be exemplary in all areas of life. Our generation is falling incredibly short of that calling. Instead of serving as the launching pad of life, the teen years are seen as a vacation from responsibility. We call it the “myth of adolescence.” And the Rebelution is all about busting that myth.” TheRebelution.com is “a safe haven for those who refuse to be defined by our rebellious culture” and “a community of Christian young people from around the world who are mutually committed to doing hard things in their teen years for the glory of God.” The website features a blog, where articles, commentaries, and posts from Alex and Brett can be found, as well as a conference section, which is devoted to the Rebelution Tour. The site also includes discussion forums, “which allow young people who share the vision of the Rebelution to network and interact,” and a resource section that includes a compilation of articles from authors like Randy Alcorn, Joshua Harris, Jerry Bridges and many others, as well as timeless truth from men like J.C. Ryle and Charles Spurgeon. To apply for a free membership, visit TheRebelution.com.
