Calvary Christian Academy Hosts “Drive-In” Senior Graduation

Calvary Christian Academy (CCA) seniors drove to school one last time the evening of Friday, May 22 for a “drive-in” graduation experience that marked the end of their high school journey. Each senior student had the opportunity to walk across an outdoor stage and have their moment of recognition while maintaining social distancing protocol. The Class of 2020 and their closest family members and friends parked their cars on a large grass field to experience the live ceremony. To hear and see the program, they tuned into an FM frequency on their car radios and turned their heads toward the […]

Rat Race

Recently I was reading some Bible verses and the concept of waiting was brought up. I recognize that waiting is a core component of our relationship with God. However, waiting is hard for those of us that live in a hurry up rat race world, yet God promises significant blessings to waiting. I think waiting needs an image makeover, some much needed professional help, perhaps a PR campaign. I ask myself this one question, “what really is waiting and why is it important?” Waiting Waiting is simply the notion that the future opportunity is greater than the current situation. For […]

A White, Conservative Christian Perspective

The heartbreaking story of Ahmaud Arbery broke over the nation recently, with millions seeing a video of him being shot by two white men in February. These men, father and son Greg and Travis McDaniel, claimed that Arbery looked like someone who had been caught burglaring on home security video. They saw him running through their neighborhood, armed themselves, chased him down, and when he tried to defend himself, they shot him and killed him in the middle of the street. The video is sickening, as Arbery stumbles and collapses, breathing his last. A wave of outrage and lament has […]

Thank You Ravi: A Tribute

I’ll never forget meeting Ravi Zacharias for the first time.  Before I met him in person, I had been following his work. As a budding missiologist, I appreciated watching a modern-day apologist deftly leverage his platform to unify instead of polarize. It was intriguing and refreshing to hear a voice speak truth drenched in grace. I especially appreciated Ravi’s ability to help us make sense of the headlines, especially global. He was able to infuse timeless truths into what was happening in the world on a daily basis. Somehow, even though he was imparting deep insights, he was able to […]

An Audience of One

In Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae, he urged them to “let the word of Christ dwell in them richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16). But what does that look like when you don’t have the sound of a full band playing alongside you or a congregation to sing with?  For the majority of worship leaders at local churches, this is our reality right now due to the effects of COVID-19. I truly believe Jesus is teaching us something special through this experience. We have an opportunity […]

StrikeForce 421 Grants $137,000 to Five Charities

On April 21st, 2020 (StrikeForce 421 Day!), the StrikeForce 421 Board of Trustees announced the 2020 Grant Finalists, giving away 100 percent of funds received for this grant year. Rather than postponing their event, originally planned for April 24, 2020, at the Broward Center Riverview Ballroom, StrikeForce 421 decided to get creative and host a Virtual Grand Reveal Celebration – because ministries need funding now more than ever. Together with StrikeForce 421 Ambassadors, Pledge Partners, Grant Finalists, and the greater StrikeForce 421 Community, the Board gathered on Zoom to announce the grant recipients and give away $137,000. After opening with prayer […]

Good News Wants to Know… What did you do while on quarantine?

My work as the new Dean of Trinity Florida started while on quarantine. The usual “getting to know you” and “finding out what’s going on” gatherings all began via Zoom meetings, Google Hangout conversations, and a river of emails. Our students, professors and staff adapted very quickly to our new environment and inspire me. They, along with church members and leaders, remind me of the apostle Paul, an adaptable person who faced untold adversity in ministry. Often locked down in prison and unable to be present, he utilized every means possible to carry out the mission, including the technology of […]

Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Continues COVID-19 Relief Efforts

In response to the effects of COVID-19, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale (CCFL) has been organizing and executing several outreach and relief efforts. On Friday, April 10 at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale the church hosted a drive-thru outreach to pass out a gift, including essential items like hand sanitizer to bless families in the community and those with neighbors in need. Extreme sanitation measures and CDC guidelines were followed when putting the gifts together.  “We have the privilege of giving away over 15,000 hand sanitizers through the generosity of our church family. We believe that Christ has called us to live […]

Leading In Difficult Times

The COVID-19 Pandemic has quickly changed the world we live in. Uncertainty, fear, confusion and financial loss can cause us to lose perspective quickly. As Christians, how are we to lead in difficult times? How does it look different than the world? Many are faced with challenging decisions in the weeks and months ahead.  For some, we are in a fog, not knowing what tomorrow will bring. As men and women who follow Jesus, we need a perspective that reflects the reality of our hope. Difficult times can be seen either as an obstacle or an opportunity. My hope is […]
