The Absolute Authority of God’s Word

As I write this, I’m preparing to preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in Essen, Germany, and in Rome. Germany, of course, was the land of the Reformation under the ministry of men like Martin Luther, where the authority of the Word of God was reclaimed after centuries of misuse by church authorities. The timeless, Biblical truth of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, swept across the German frontier and beyond and changed the face of much of Europe.  “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it […]

Impressive Line-Up of Faith-Based Films Coming to Theaters

In 2023, we have already been blessed by a wide variety of inspirational films that touched and changed many lives. Most of those 2023 films, such as “Sound of Freedom,” “Jesus Revolution,” “Big George Foreman,” “The Blind,” “Miracle in East Texas,” “Nefarious” and more, continue to touch people through DVD, streaming and licensed church showings. Thankfully there are still several films in theaters this month, followed by an impressive line-up for 2024. These movies not only bless believers, but also provide an excellent opportunity for outreach. Since the secular media usually ignores these, we as believers need to spread the […]

Advent: A Season of Anticipation

The term “Advent” is derived from the Latin word “adventus,” which means “coming” or “arrival.” It’s a season of longing, looking forward to the arrival of the Lord.   When we talk about the coming of Jesus during Advent, we encompass three dimensions of this arrival: the past coming, commemorating the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ more than 2,000 years ago; the present coming, signifying God’s entry into our lives when we choose to place our trust in Him; and the future coming, a belief in God’s upcoming return to fulfill His redemptive work and renew all things.   […]

Elijah and Elisha: Mentoring And Connection

In May of 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General’s office released a study showing that over half of the United States felt significant levels of isolation and loneliness BEFORE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. The lock downs and social distancing that followed only further increased disconnection. The report goes on to describe that isolation and loneliness have the same impact on health as smoking a pack of cigarettes daily. This leaves no doubt as to why God places such importance on our connection with others. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 conveys the importance of companionship, stating that two are better than one, as they support and […]

A Heart of Thanksgiving: Jesus’ Acts of Gratitude

As we gather at the table this year to celebrate Thanksgiving, there are so many challenges happening around the world and maybe even in our own lives and relationships. However, I’ve learned the power of gratitude and how our gratitude can beget more gratitude in others and can then create a chain reaction that changes the atmosphere and attitudes of everyone around us.  This year, I want to focus on how Jesus’ life is full of examples of public displays of gratitude and thanksgiving to God.  As Christians, we continually navigate the beautiful yet complex truth that Jesus is both […]

Maintaining Marital Satisfaction Through the Seasons and Stages of Life

I was recently blessed to renew a friendship from 40 years ago. Some of my most hilarious moments were with this person, but over the years we had lost touch with bits of news from mutual friends. I was looking forward to connecting personally, but I needed to see a pic on social media to recognize them. I called their name, and even then, I wasn’t sure it was them. I looked at them, searching for the face, eyes or smile I knew so well decades earlier. Not even a glimmer! I was listening for anything that reminded me of […]

If you could live one of the days of someone else’s life, who would it be and why?

This month, Good News Wants to Know… if you could live one of the days of someone else’s life, who would it be and why? I would like to have been Winston Churchill on July 4th, 1922, when, in a masterful speech, he convinced Parliament to adopt the Balfour Declaration thereby establishing for all time the Jewish homeland in the Palestine mandate. History shows it was this speech that saved the nation of Israel from extinction.   Oksana Horton, Creative Director, Torch and Trumpet Theatre Company If I could live one day of someone else’s life I would like to be Nathanael […]
