The Real Christmas Story

Like most kids, Christmas was my favorite holiday. One reason was because of the long school vacation but the most important reason was the gifts. Christmas Eve was the longest night of the year. My brothers and I usually started about four in the morning asking mom and dad, “Can we get up now.” Only to hear dad yell, “Get back to bed.” Through my elementary years I had some of the greatest memories of that time of year. However, as great as that time was I never really understood the real meaning of Christmas. The Christmas story is told […]

Is it Okay to Break the Law?

When is it okay, if ever, for Christians to break the law? Scripture makes it clear that Christians are to follow the governing authorities that God has placed over them. The Bible says, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live […]

Immanuel

(Scroll down to leave a comment on what Immanuel means to you) Finally we have arrived at our favorite time of the year as a family…Christmas time! We wait all year to get out those lights and decorations that mark the beginning of Christmas for us. We love the sights. We love the smells.  We love the tastes. We love the sharing with family and friends. But most importantly, we love the reason for the season and His name is Jesus Christ. Immanuel, God with us I would like our meditation this month to lead us back, by faith, to […]

(No) Baby on Board

It’s a hot button issue; more than ever before women have control over their reproductive lives. We have everything from birth control pills to fertility treatments at our fingertips. We can choose to have a baby now or freeze our eggs and save them until, well, just about whenever we feel like it. In the future, it is forecasted that people will be able to choose everything about their baby from gender to eye color. The question is: Where do we stand as Christians in this ever-changing world? The truth is that opinions on the subject vary within the body […]

My Best Christmas

My best Christmas recollection as a child actually began on summer vacation.  I was about eight years old and my dad and I were walking through the tourist village where we were vacationing. I saw a pair of red, knit slippers with fake leather sole and Indian beads on top. They were those ugly slippers that were basically thick socks with a sole sewn on so you could walk outside.  I repeat, ugly! When I saw them, I said to my dad, “I bet mom would like those,” thinking he would spend the eight dollars and get them for her.  […]

Got Questions?

Question – Is self sex okay? – Kevin, 25 Kevin, This is a great question and one that many godly Christian leaders have wrestled with and have differing opinions on. To be honest with you, there is not a clear answer in the Bible whether or not masturbation is right or wrong. However, we can take principles from the Bible to navigate “gray areas”, including self sex. According to Jonathan Daugherty, founder of Be Broken Ministries – a Life helping the sexually addicted, “Masturbation, if seen purely as a physical function, is not sin. It is simply an orgasmic release. […]

Passing the Test

Tests can be challenging. I remember studying relentlessly for a calculus test back in college. The instructor had the goal of ensuring that his students learned certain concepts by the end of the course and had written his test to discover whether or not we had in fact learned those concepts. Happily, I aced it, even the bonus questions. In so doing, I was awarded a perfect score and had the satisfaction of having learned the material for future use in my professional career. God often tests His people with respect to spiritual matters. Why does He test us? Ultimately, […]

Ready for a Season of Change?

I live in Northeast Indiana where there are four distinct seasons. It is an exciting time of year because we are currently leaving summer behind and entering fall. The leaves on the trees are changing colors, the air is getting cooler and each day seems to get shorter and shorter. Eventually, fall will end and be ushered in by winter. Just like the different season changes in Indiana, God takes His children through season changes. I am reminded how Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness and then one day out of the blue God spoke to him in a […]
