DESCRIPTION:Food For The Poor (FFTP)\, 6401 Lyons Road\, Coconut Creek will host Food For The Poor Day on May 7 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. \nThe community is invited to join the charity for a celebration of faith and optimism. \nThe festive day will be filled with various activities\, starting with a prayer service open to all from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the Prayer Room of FFTP’s Coconut Creek headquarters. \nFollowing the service\, guests will have an opportunity to tour the building and warehouse at 10 a.m.\, 1 p.m.\, or 3 p.m. During these tours\, they also will have the chance to pack disaster hygiene kits for Haiti or try on a virtual reality headset and transport themselves to one of the countries where FFTP helps people in need. \nThe highlight of Food For The Poor Day will be the release of Glacia Robinson’s latest album\, “Hands of Mercy.” Fifty percent of proceeds from the album will go to support FFTP programs. \nA reception for guests to mix and mingle with FFTP’s leadership team will begin at 6 p.m. in the FFTP lobby prior to the album release and concert. \nRobinson will perform songs from the album in FFTP’s Prayer Room at 7 p.m. The songs were written and inspired by Robinson’s experiences with FFTP. \nJoining Robinson in this special performance will be the Cason Kids Chorus from Cason United Methodist Church in Delray Beach\, Fla.\, and FFTP’s own CRUSE Tones band\, adding their voices to the evening of celebration. \nTo RSVP for any of the activities\, visit foodforthepoor.org/fftpday.

DESCRIPTION:Food For The Poor\, 6401 Lyons Road\, Coconut Creek\, will be holding its Hearts United Community Day on December 3 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. \nThe charity will pack meal kits for 1\,000 impoverished families in the Caribbean and Latin America. \nJoin volunteers\, who will pack 1\,000 kits that will provide enough food to feed an average family of four for one week. In addition\, FFTP is seeking food donations in precise quantities and sizes specifically selected to fit in each kit. The contents of each kit will include: \n  \n•     Vegetable oil\, one 48-ounce bottle \n•     Corn meal\, one 24-ounce bag \n•     Parboiled rice\, one 5-pound bag \n•     Elbow pasta\, one 16-ounce bag \n•     Tuna\, four 5-ounce cans \n•     Red beans\, four 15.5-ounce cans \n•     Mixed vegetables\, two 15-ounce cans \n•     Peaches\, two 14- to 15-ounce cans \n  \nAll items must be purchased new\, with at least a one-year expiration date from Dec. 3\, the day of the event. \n  \nDonors can purchase the items in person and bring them to the FFTP warehouse before the event or buy them online via AmazonSmile or Walmart For Good and ship them directly to the warehouse. \n  \nThe event is a pilot project to help FFTP develop a new program for churches\, businesses\, groups and organizations that wish to support the charity’s work by purchasing items and hosting packing events at their facilities. Eventually\, groups will be able to host their own packing event using boxes\, marketing materials and packing instructions provided by FFTP. DESCRIPTION:Food for the Poor\, 6401 Lyons Road\, Coconut Creek will be holding its Honoring Our Veterans Community Day Event on November 11 from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. \nThe special day will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at the charity’s Coconut Creek headquarters\, 6401 Lyons Road\, with a half-hour program recognizing members of local veterans organizations as well as FFTP team members who have served. \nArmy Col. J. Frank Melgarejo Jr.\, Chief of the Theater Civil Affairs Planning Team South at United States Southern Command\, a longtime FFTP partner\, will be the keynote speaker. Other guests include Coconut Creek Police Sgt. Raphael Marin\, a military veteran\, who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. \nAt 11:15 a.m.\, guests will move to the charity’s warehouse to pack hygiene kits that will go to poverty-stricken families in the countries FFTP serves and to help veterans in need in South Florida. \nDuring the 90-minute packing session\, volunteers will fill the kits with basic necessities – soap\, deodorant\, toothbrushes and toothpaste – items that most people take for granted every day but are desperately needed by children and families in times of crisis. \nRegister to attend the program or to volunteer for the packing event by visiting www.FoodForThePoor.org/veterans.
