Marking a century of uninterrupted service in Broward County, The Salvation Army commemorated its centennial from May 15 to 17 with a series of moving community events. More than an institution, the organization has stood as a promise of dignity, compassion, and hope for thousands of families.
The centennial committee prepared three historic days. Celebrations began Friday with the Centennial Concert, performed by the divisional band led by Dr. Adely Charles. On Saturday, attendees enjoyed the Legacy Walk, an interactive journey through the organization’s rich history, which culminated in a grand centennial gala. The banquet featured Lieutenant Colonel William Crabson and presented special awards to outstanding partners and volunteers. Major Juan Guadalupe, Area Commander, presented Carol Stevenson with the Legacy Soldier Award, and Kevin B. Kelleher, Deputy County Administrator, was presented with the Community Partner Award.
The weekend concluded with a Sunday of Worship and Gratitude, enriched by an inspiring message from Colonel Ron Busroe.
“I see that promise kept every single day in the mother who finds rest in our shelter and in the volunteer who serves before sunrise,” said Guadalupe.
Putting faith into action, the institution proudly begins its next one hundred years of service.
