“Machine Gun Preacher” Sam Childers appearing in Boca Raton March 8-9

BOCA RATON, FL; Feb 28–Sam Childers, better known as “The Machine Gun Preacher” is coming to Boca Raton for a special two day speaking engagement hosted by Salt Church. Childers will be speaking Saturday March 8 at 6:30 pm and Sunday March 9 at 10:30 at Don Estridge Middle School, 1798 Spanish River Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33431.

The event hosted by Salt Church will include the premier of Childers’ documentary Saturday night and he’ll be the guest speaker at the Salt Church service Sunday morning.
Childers is best known for his inspiring mission to save children in war torn Sudan. After turning to drugs and then back to God, Childers accepted a missionary trip to the village of Yei, Southern Sudan. His aim was to repair huts damaged in the midst of the Second Sudanese War. During this assignment, Childers stumbled across the body of a child torn apart by a landmine. He fell to his knees and made a pledge to God to do whatever it took to help the people of Southern Sudan.

He founded Angels of East Africa a non-profit aid organization in 1998 to provide a better future for orphaned children in Sudan. He continues to work to improve conditions there today and built the largest orphanage in Southern Sudan and has fed and housed more than 1,000 children. Today, more than 200 children call the orphanage home.
Actor Gerard Butler recently portrayed Childers in the 2011 film, Machine Gun Preacher. Now, Childers is set to release Missionary or Mercenary – The Machine Gun Preacher documentary April 25. He’ll be showing the documentary at Salt Church’s event March 8.

“For me to sit here and give all kinds of excuses to make it right, I can’t do. But what I want to ask everyone out there, everyone that has a child, everyone that has a brother, a sister: if your child or family member was abducted today, if a mad man came, a terrorist came, abducted your family member or your child and if I said to you I can bring your child home…does it matter how I bring them home?” — Sam Childers
