Covenant Village of Florida in Plantation received the gift of service from a group of graduating senior high school students from Duluth, Minnesota, who stopped by to complete a service project before heading off on their senior class trip in June.
The group of 13 students and six chaperons from Lakeview Christian Academy, a non-denominational school in Duluth, flew into Fort Lauderdale International Airport on a Saturday with intentions to add color and beauty to the campus, which brought smiles to residents’ faces. The group planted colorful blooms and pulled weeds in the continuing care retirement community’s Palm Villa/Care Center outdoor garden.
Chaperon Jill Broman said “We’ve always encouraged and expected the students to look beyond themselves and help others,” she said. “It was a blessing to for us to be able to come down here and help, and the kids were able to work on a service project together one last time.”
The group worked with Covenant Village of Florida Groundskeeper Albert Goater, Chaplain Rocky Cook, and Community and Church Relations Coordinator Karen Cook. The group finished off with shuffleboard and pizza. For more information on Covenant Village visit www.CovenantFlorida.org.
