Allen West: Do Something Outside Your Comfort Zone

Having served in the U.S. Congress and as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army, Allen West does not shrink back from a fight.  “We live in the greatest nation on the earth, and we need to remember how great this nation is,” he said. Addressing more than 150 business leaders during a Christian Business Men’s Connection luncheon on December 18, West challenged the audience to “listen for that small voice that is asking you to do something outside your comfort zone, and remember Ephesians 10 that calls you to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty […]

Pick PDQ for a Fresh Family Feast

Eating right can be a challenge during the holiday season as schedules are squeezed and meal planning falters. PDQ is an excellent option for families on the go. PDQ stands for People Dedicated to Quality and they are true to their name. Serving up fresh tenders, hand-tossed salads and made-to-order sandwiches, it’s not the usual fast food fodder. Their hand-breaded chicken tenders are delightfully light and tender. Paired with a selection of signature sauces, they will satisfy the little dipper in the family. My personal favorite is their Buffalo Bleu sauce that combines the traditional spicy Buffalo wing flavor with […]

Giving Flows from Gratitude

Thanksgiving is a fitting time to look back and consider our national heritage in the Pilgrims and how this devout group of Christians overcame a harsh first winter, where almost half died of starvation and sickness, only to respond the next season by generously giving thanks and sharing their harvest with their neighbors: the Indians. Despite difficult circumstances, out of gratitude toward God, they gave. Think about it… Less than a year earlier half of their community died of starvation and sickness; a prudent man could argue that a feast would be wasteful and that a wise steward would store […]

Fort Lauderdale Ordinance Restricts Feeding the Homeless Outdoors

In a move that some say is limiting the expression of compassion, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission passed an ordinance in October that places restrictions on feeding programs for the homeless outside of a building. This follows the addition of a law in April that gives police the authority to confiscate possessions stored in public after a 24-hour notice and the enactment of an encampment law that prevents people from sleeping with their belongings in certain areas. When it comes to the homeless, Vice Mayor Romney Rogers said, “It’s a balancing act. It comes down to cooperation. There are mental […]

Leadership is Knowing What You Believe

The 27th Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Vern Clark was conducting a meeting at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 when five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the building killing 184 men, women and children.
