A Look Back on the Life of Robert F. Kennedy

Covenant Village of Florida, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities, will host Nova Southeastern University Lifelong Learning Institute as it presents “A Personal Retrospective: A Look Back on the Life of Robert F. Kennedy,” by former JFK advance man Carmelo “Mel” Cottone.

The event takes place on Tuesday, November 11 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Cottone kept a low profile during his colorful 50-year career in politics. Now retired from Washington D.C., he’ll share his personal stories about his journey with the Kennedy family, which began when charismatic John F. Kennedy was a presidential candidate. He’ll also talk about his experiences with Robert Kennedy during his short-lived presidential bid.

Cottone was on the team responsible for the West Virginia primary victory that propelled John F. Kennedy to the presidency. He stayed on to serve Kennedy until his assassination in 1963, and then served as Lyndon B. Johnson’s campaign advance man. He also served President Jimmy Carter and Senators Robert F. Kennedy, Ed Muskie, Henry Scoop Jackson, Fritz Hollings, John Glenn and Robert Byrd.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information or to RSVP, please call 877-670-0889 or visit www.CovenantFlorida.org. Covenant Village of Florida is located at 9215 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation.
