DETAILS:
Participation in the arts and sciences produces numerous benefits that have been well documented for many years. Children who participate in the arts and sciences reap benefits that range from academic improvements to greater self-esteem. Students learn the importance of diligence in practice, how to think creatively and express themselves in a variety of manners. In spite of the many benefits derived from arts participation, funding for arts-related and creative education has decreased dramatically over the past decade. The decline has been most rapid in poorer, urban schools.

Urban Youth Impact’s SMART (Where Science Meets Art)
includes options for students to participate in science experiments, coding, photography, violin, drums, visual arts, and piano instruction on a weekly basis. Youth sign up to participate in their areas of interest and commit to remain in the class for one semester.
