Remember Worthy Charities in Your Christmas Giving

Christmas is the season when there is a focus on spreading good will toward men. Many ministries are hoping you will remember to send them a gift as you plan your Christmas giving. In fact, an analysis of the Digital Giving Index found that 31 percent of annual giving occurred in the month of December with 12 percent of annual giving taking place on the last three days of the year, according to Charity Navigator. This is a huge time for many ministries,” said Melodie Stoligrosz, director of client relations for Ministry Ventures, a coaching organization that helps nonprofits develop […]

Finding the Star of Bethlehem

Was there an actual “Star” of Bethlehem or was it an apparition that God miraculously set in the skies that led three Magi (Kings or Wise men) to the Savior of the world? Could the star actually be an unusual pattern of heavenly bodies aligned over Bethlehem? Some think it was an angel that appeared as a star. The mystery of the Christmas star has always been subject to much discussion by scholars and followers of Christ. The Star of Bethlehem appears in Matthew 2:3-11 where we are told that there was a sign in the heavens that lead the […]

A Christmas Fantasy

Two thousand years ago on a Judean hillside an angel appeared to a group of shepherds keeping watch over their sheep by night. He announced good news that would bring great joy to all people. A savior – Christ the Lord was born. Then suddenly the sky was ablaze while an angelic choir proclaimed peace on earth and good-will toward men. The shepherds were given instructions on how to find this new baby in the village of Bethlehem. They went there and worshipped the baby Jesus. What a wonderful story. Leaders See Things Differently

Leaders are people, like all of us. But there is something different about a real leader. Leaders see things with a clarity that brings life into focus. Leaders see things that other people don’t see. Physical eyesight is one of the five senses. We take special care to preserve our vision. A few years ago the total vision care market in the U.S. generated about 34.5 billion dollars. Eye sight is important. We often use the analogy of sight to express our agreement or disagreement with each other. Sometimes we say that we see eye-to-eye about a certain situation. At […]

It’s the Little Things

“Name ten things you love about your husband,” I challenged a friend at the end of her marital rope. “Nothing. I can’t think of one thing,” she replied. I prompted, “Does he provide?” “He brings home a paycheck. That’s it.” She had no trouble listing the things he did wrong. Facebook post I posted the same challenge on Facebook. Early in the day, I got one response. One person wrote one thing. I replied that I had asked for ten things, but there was no further reply. Was that it? Finally, LouAnne chimed in with her Carlos rocks 10: He […]

WeROne Music Festival to Unite Hollywood with Music, Food and Art

“There is strength in numbers. We’ve all heard that phrase and there is much truth to it. It speaks of many people putting their hands together for the work at hand, and the result is that much gets done. It speaks of unity, harmony and agreement. That is what WeROne means to me,” explained Fidel Gomez, pastor of Calvary Chapel Hollywood. “It’s a group of people that, although they may be very different, are willing to put aside differences that there might be unity and harmony.” On Saturday, November 19, the WeROne Music Festival will present its inaugural full-day event […]

Giving Thanks Even In the Silence!

(Scroll down to leave a comment on what you like to thanks to God for ) Both my study of the Scriptures and my experience as a pastor have fully convinced me of this truth: When heaven seems silent, God is still there, and he still cares much more than we will ever know on this side of the grave. As I’ve said before, we must remember that God always answers every one of our prayers with one of the following responses: YES, NO or WAIT. Now I know we don’t care much for the last two responses from our […]
