How to Create a New Song

Songwriting has always been a central part of Village Hymns, and we believe that songwriting is a form of worship. Psalm 96 lays it out perfectly; it begins by saying, “Sing to the LORD a new song…proclaim his salvation day after day.” Every year Village Hymns invites local worship leaders and musicians to participate in a 28-Day Songwriting Challenge – challenging them to write for 10 minutes every day for the month of February. It only takes 10 minutes a day to get started, then it only takes 28 days of writing until songwriting is a daily habit. Years go […]

Jesus Our Emmanuel

There are so many wonderful things that come with the Christmas season, and Christmas music about Jesus has to be top of my list. I have to admit that I started streaming Christmas as my life’s soundtrack starting mid-November. I just can’t help myself. There’s something about the words of Christmas hymns and ancient chant-like melodies that stir my soul and wrap me up in wonder. For Ours Is the Kingdom

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom” (Matthew 5:3).   Do you feel weary? Tired? Do you feel discouraged at your lack of physical, emotional or spiritual strength? It seems that lately everywhere I look I feel my weakness; I feel my […]

Songs of Our City

If we could write anthems and prayers for the Church in South Florida to sing in this season, what would they say? This was the question we asked ourselves at a Village Hymns songwriting workshop. We decided to start a conversation about the brokenness we see around us and pulled out a whiteboard to dive into reflection about specific issues and needs. As this filled up with words like homelessness, racial division, affluence and poverty, drug addiction, and many other expressions of brokenness, the question we asked was: “Where is our hope?” We found ourselves confessing to each other that […]

Uniting the Church In Worship

Sometimes it takes a single spark in the heart of one that God uses to spread something impactful to a community. The vision of Village Hymns began four years ago inside the heart of a local South Florida worship leader. Josh Bramos pulled together a small group of worship leader friends who wrote songs for their churches. Each of us had something in common: we were writing songs for our church contexts and leading them on Sunday mornings right alongside mainstream worship songs and hymns.    Themes We found that there were themes that were rising up from pulpits and […]
