Calvary Lighthouse United Changes Name to The Local Church

Eric Gamero and Gary Mauro

Over three years ago, two churches united under one roof with the dream of making a greater impact for Jesus in our community for generations to come. Today, this dream is a reality. God has blessed the church. They have grown by nearly 70 percent. They are expanding, having just complete a $5.4 million campaign, and they will be publicly changing the name of the church from Calvary Lighthouse United to The Local Church effective Easter Sunday 2019. “We have discovered that we truly are better together,” said Founding Pastor Gary Mauro.

Mauro and Lead Pastor Eric Gamero recently completed a teaching series in the Book of Acts titled “The Local Church” and announced the name change. “We have prayed and planned, along with our entire leadership team and Board of Directors, and we believe that now is the time. We simply want to be known as a local church that loves and serves our community for Jesus, just like the local church in the New Testament,” said the pastoral team in a published statement. “While we will always honor our past, we will also keep moving forward. This is a new name for a new season. Nothing else has changed.”

The completion of the expansion campaign will allow them to build a brand new sanctuary to seat 1500 people, renovate the rest of their 10 acre property and dedicate funds to community outreach. However Mauro said, “For me the story is that a 30-year old ministry was able to successfully transition to a new generation of leaders. We’re set for the next 25 years with our team, the congregation is committed and the name change is part of that future.”
