Banquet of Champions

The Gold Coast Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be paying tribute to legendary College Football Coach, Howard Schnellenberger on December 8, 2011 during the FCA’s Annual Banquet of Champions. The banquet, which will take place at Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, will also include a special tribute by former coaches and players who will honor Schnellenberger’s retirement from a renowned and prosperous coaching career.

In addition to a variety of players and coaches who will be taking part in this event, FCA recently announced that H. Wayne Huizenga, President of Huizenga Holdings, will be the banquet’s keynote speaker.

Schellenberger began his distinguished coaching career back in 1959 as an assistant in Kentucky and recently finished this year’s season as the Founder and only Head Football Coach of Florida Atlantic University (FAU).

Career highlights for Schellenberger include: four national collegiate football championships, with three at Alabama under Bear Bryant; the 1983 National Championship as Head Coach when the Miami Hurricanes defeated Nebraska 31-30 in the 50th Anniversary Orange Bowl Game; and being a part of seven NFL playoff teams and was offensive coordinator for the Best Record in NFL history (17-0) under Don Shula in the Miami Dolphins 1972 Perfect Season.

For those who want to take part in this memorable night at Calvary Chapel, James Pendleton, Area Director of the Gold Coast FCA, shared that “a limited number of VIP tables of ten are available and start at $1,000. All proceeds will benefit the mission to impact the world for Jesus Christ by empowering athletes and coaches at high schools, on campuses, camp scholarships and FCA resources for huddle groups serving Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.”
