Big Bands & Movies Presentation

Covenant Village of Florida, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities, will host Nova Southeastern University Lifelong Learning Institute as David Novek presents “Big Bands & Movies Part I” on February 10.

The program will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. The Big Bands ruled the entertainment universe during the Swing Era, and Hollywood quickly moved them front and center in a number of movies during the 1930s and 40s. During this lecture, Novek will highlight the lives and careers of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey. These celebrated leaders not only led their Big Bands, they also performed as actors in the movies. Upcoming lectures will highlight Glen Miller, Harry James, Xavier Cugat and Duke Ellington.

Covenant Village of Florida and the Nova Southeastern University Lifelong Learning Institute offer monthly lectures on a variety of topics, including art, music, literature, philosophy, history, politics, current events, science and health care. Expert NSU visiting faculty and faculty members lead each lecture.

Covenant Village of Florida is located at 9215 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation, Fla. The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information or to RSVP, please call 877-670-0889 or visit www.CovenantFlorida.org.
