Human Trafficking of Boys and Men – Prevalence, Neurological Impact, Substance Abuse and Service Responses

Ark of Freedom Alliance is holding an online seminar called Human Trafficking of Boys and Men – Prevalence, Neurological Impact, Substance Abuse and Service Responses on July 1 from 1 – 4 p.m.

Minor male victims of human trafficking often go unidentified and are underserved.

This session will help participants improve their ability to understand male victimization and the neurological impacts of trauma. Participants will also hear about available research regarding minor male victims of human trafficking and promising practices for effective outreach, engagement and service provision.

Objectives:
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

1) Understand the prevalence and neurological impacts of trauma for male youth.

2) Discuss biases and stigmas that lead to the lack of response and resources for male youth who have experienced trauma.

3) Discuss research regarding the contributing factors linked to susceptibility to commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking among male youth.

4) Identify promising practices and service responses that address underlying issues that can put male youth at risk for exploitation and trafficking.

Subject-Matter Expert Panelists will include: Dr. Joan A. Reid, Ph.D., LMHC, Peter Pollard, MPA, and Honorable Suamhirs Piraino-Guzman, MPsy.
