Expect a Miracle

Have you ever noticed that when you are witnessing to some unbelievers and the subject of miracles from the Bible comes up, some people will try to justify the miracle by natural means? I always tell these people that Spiritual laws operate differently than the Laws of Physics. I tell them that most people claim that “seeing is believing”, but in the Spirit realm of God “believing is seeing”. I just recently saw a cartoon in which one person, an unbeliever, is telling a Christian that the Red Sea was drying up and the water was very shallow and that is how the Israelites were able to cross it. The Christian replied that it really was a miracle then that God could drown the whole Egyptian army in a foot of water! Moses believed that God would deliver Israel out of the hand of Pharaoh. In Exodus 14:16, God tells Moses to lift his rod and stretch his hand over the sea to divide it and that the children of Israel would pass through the midst of the sea on “dry” ground. Even the fact that the sea bed was dry is a miracle in itself! There is no task too difficult that God can’t perform it. Do you need a miracle today? Are you being pursued by forces that want to consume and destroy you? Are you between a rock and a hard place, just as the Israelites were? Do you need the Lord to make a way for you out of the wilderness? Then lift up your hands and glorify God for His saving power and do not doubt in your heart. Speak the Word of the Lord against your obstacles and expect a miracle! Matthew 17:20 says, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

In the Book of John 10:22, the Feast of Dedication is mentioned. This Feast is more commonly known as Hanukkah -The Festival of Lights – and occurred during the reign of Antiochus Epiphanes, the evil Greco-Syrian king. This king gained control of the Temple in Jerusalem and defiled it by sacrificing a pig on the altar and spilling its blood on the Holy Scrolls of Scripture. He forced the Jews to bow down and worship his pagan gods and he oppressed and persecuted them in every way. A group of Jewish freedom fighters known as the Maccabees held strong to their faith in God and eventually gained a miraculous victory against the forces of King Epiphanes. The Maccabees gained control of the Temple and cleansed it of all Greek idolatry. They rededicated the Temple to the Lord and lit the Eternal Light (which is to be kept lit at all times). The Maccabees only had enough oil to keep the Eternal Light lit for one day, but God miraculously kept it lit for eight days until the Jews had enough time to process new oil. If you or a loved one are surrounded by enemies or are in a place of darkness, do not despair. If you are being oppressed and persecuted by evil forces and influences, hold fast to your faith in God and expect a miracle! God is the Eternal Light that dispels all darkness and evil must flee in His presence. We have the victory when we remain in the presence of the Lord and rebuke all false idols.

Our God is a God of miracles and another great miracle is told in the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead (See John 11). In verse 25, Jesus declares that He is the resurrection and the life and though we may die, we shall live. When Jesus commanded the people to roll away the stone from the tomb where Lazarus was buried, his sister Martha objected because Lazarus was already dead four days and there would be a stench. In verse 40, we read, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” Here Jesus is saying that “believing is seeing” and thus Lazarus was raised from the dead. Do you have dead things in your life that need to be resurrected? Is your marriage dead, or some other special relationship? Is your career in a death mode? Are you holding on to these dead things and allowing the stench of death to over-power your life? God will remove every stone that entombs you and He will resurrect you to new life. God will remove the stench of death from you and replace it with a sweet fragrance of joy. All you need to do is believe it and you will see it. Have faith in God and expect a miracle! Matthew 19:26 tells us, “With God all things are possible.”

There are many wonderful miracles in the Bible that we can read about. Sadly, some believe that God only performed miracles back then. Thankfully, God is still in the miracle business and He performs miracles all the time! Miracles happen on a daily basis all over the world, even though we may be unaware of many of them. And, the greatest miracle of all is when we are born-again and receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Not only do we receive unmerited salvation, but we receive the presence of God in us. We receive God’s awesome power of His Holy Spirit that begins to change us into the image of Christ. Although we will still go through many trials and tribulations in life, God is with us and will help us through all of them. Even when things don’t turn out the way we had hoped they would and we don’t understand why, God is still doing what is best for us. The miracle is that it is all “working for our good” even when we don’t recognize it. So many people today are facing real problems and they need hope and help. It is up to us to lead them to the Lord for the first time, or back to the Lord if they have wandered away, and encourage them to expect a miracle!
