Recent data from the National School Boards Association indicates that 45% of Black students nationwide attend high-poverty schools, compared with just 8% of white students. Leading efforts to provide a supportive, faith-based environment for Black girls within South Florida is God’s Gift, Inc., a nonprofit with a mission to help students of color achieve their dreams.

By way of mentoring, career preparation and weekend retreats, God’s Gift, Inc. helps girls develop their character, leadership skills and overall self-worth.

The girls recently came together with The Beauty Initiative to host a period-packing party in Fort Lauderdale with Florida State Representative Daryl Campbell also in attendance. The members, along with volunteers, packed individually wrapped feminine hygiene including pads, tampons, wipes and liners, with hopes to combat what is known as ‘menstrual inequity’ with their efforts.  All of the hygiene kits are being donated to local elementary and middle schools, as well as distributed to selected girls group homes throughout Broward County.

Founder Dr. Ciara Bostick ensures that not only are her girls motivated by faith-based lessons but also understand the importance of giving back. Learn more at godsgiftinc.org.
