Steven Curtis Chapman comes to South Florida Aug. 15

Five-time Grammy Award winner Steven Curtis Chapman will perform at Land Shark Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 15, as part of the Marlins’ “Super Saturdays” home game program. The Christian singer and songwriter will take the stage after the Florida Marlins take on the Colorado Rockies at 6:10 p.m.

The concert will also be followed by a fireworks extravaganza. Concert attendees are also invited to stop by the Strike Zone at Gate H, where players and celebrities will be signing autographs.

Chapman’s most recent album “This Moment” is based on the themes of family, worship and international awareness. After releasing his first album in 1987, Chapman has become one of the most popular singers in Christian music history. He has now released more than 20 albums.

Chapman was recently honored at the 40th Annual Dove Awards where he was named Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, less than a year after the tragic death of his daughter Maria Sue. At the April awards show he also gave a moving performance of his song “Cinderella,” which he wrote for his daughters Maria Sue and Stevey Joy.

Since Maria’s death on May 21, 2008, “Cinderella,” has had even more meaning. The song urges listeners to treasure every moment God gives them because, as Chapman sings, “All too soon the clock will strike midnight. But the truth is … the dance goes on.”

Chapman’s post-game concert is also being advertised as “Homeschool Night” with the Marlins.

Homeschool families who use the promotional code “HOMESCHOOL” when ordering their tickets will receive exclusive online discounts on infield box, bullpen box and outfield terrace seats. Part of each ticket purchased through the homeschool offer benefits the Florida Parent-Educators Association Scholarship Fund, a non-profit that offers scholarships for homeschooled students pursuing post-high school education.

Land Shark Stadium is located at 2269 Dan Marino Blvd. in Miami Gardens. For more information, visit Marlins.com.
