The Blood of Redemption

This month at The Good News our theme is Redemption and I immediately thought about the blood of Jesus. How is it that we can be saved from all of our sins by having them washed away by blood? And what was the high price paid for our redemption? Ephesians 1:7 says, “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.”

We were purchased with a great price when our Lord Jesus shed His blood for us, and now we are His. So no matter where we have been and what we have done in the past, the blood of Jesus cancels every sin and we are redeemed to begin a new life in Him. God’s plan of redemption not only provided the perfect sacrifice needed to redeem us, but also provided a plan of checks and balances to lead and guide us into our future as a new creation. By being taught God’s Word we learn how to think and act according to His wisdom and knowledge, so that the old person dies and the new one is born. Although we are still not perfected and we will fall into sin at times, we are striving towards the gift of renewal in Christ. The more we learn about God through His Word and the more time we spend with Him in prayer, the more He is able to perfect and use us according to His plans for us. Sometimes we don’t understand where He is leading us and we feel vulnerable, but all we really need to do is trust Him. When we don’t trust the Lord we are in rebellion against Him and we will fall into sin. And as we all know, sin brings all kinds of pain and agonies with it, and sin will also leave us with scars and bad memories.

If you have feelings of guilt or shame because of things that you have said or done, I have good News for you. The redemptive power of Christ’s blood immediately removes your sin and guilt and God does not remember those things anymore, so you need to forgive yourself and release yourself from the negative feelings associated with sin. The precious blood of Jesus is the foundation of redemption and is the all sufficient sacrifice for our sin. Not only are your sins forgiven, but every born-again believer is redeemed. Therefore, we also need to forgive our brothers and sisters in the Lord when they fall from grace … “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Our Lord’s precious blood not only redeems us from sin, but also protects and empowers us against every demonic spirit as Colossians 1:13 states: “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.” The power of the blood also acts as a protective barrier over us, and it guards us against every evil just as it did for the Israelites when they covered their doorposts and lintel with the blood of the lamb during the Passover. When we are fighting adversity we should plead the precious blood and apply it over our self and our circumstance. The power of the blood of Jesus washes away our sins, and protects and delivers us from every evil. Let us not think too lightly of this awesome gift that we have received from our Lord.

If you have a friend, loved one or co-worker that needs redemption and deliverance from evil, then tell that person about the powerful, precious blood of Jesus. He gave up His life for us to save us from our self, and that life was in the blood as Leviticus 17:11 states: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul.” Jesus not only shed His blood for us but He entered into heaven and sprinkled His blood upon the mercy seat before the throne of God and paid our debt of sin in full and delivered us from the curse of the law (Hebrews 9:12). What a powerful and perfect plan of redemption God has laid out for all of us sinners. When we remain in sin, or get caught up in emotional garbage that leaves us feeling powerless to act, we should remember that the blood of Jesus will forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and protect and defend us from all evil. How awesome our God is and how wonderful is His love for us!
