Franklin Graham: Lift Up Your Head

Scroll down to leave a comment on how you keep your head up to God in dark times. We all know the terrible toll that the COVID-19 virus has taken on countries around the globe. The pandemic has taken more than 5.5 million lives worldwide, including more than 850,000 here in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 has become the third-leading cause of death, behind cancer and heart disease (obviously not counting abortion). As horrific as those totals are, the disease has not only attacked our health but also our society. Illicit drug […]

Forman Family Legacy Spans 100 Years in Florida

The Forman name is a fixture in South Florida, affixed to education buildings and parks and drawing respect within the community. Hamilton McClure Forman and Blanche Collins Forman were pioneers from Illinois who pitched a tent in the Everglades in 1910 on land they bought sight unseen. When growing potatoes proved difficult, they started South Florida’s first dairy farm in 1914 in what is now Davie and were the first tenders of the Sewell Lock on the New River Canal at Davie Road. Their sons, Hamilton C. Forman and Charles R. Forman, together with their wives influenced the development of […]

Elizabeth A Mitchell: Prayer for Ukraine

Scroll down to leave your prayer for Ukraine. “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone; and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:9-10) Dear Father, We acknowledge that you are supremely in control of all the world and realize we do not need to bring you up to date on what is occurring in Ukraine. We worship you for your sovereign rule over all the circumstances that seem […]

Dr. Tommy Boland: The Wisdom of “Wax On, Wax Off”

In the early 1980’s as I was beginning what would become a lifelong study of the martial arts, I went to see what has become one of my favorite movies of all time, “The Karate Kid.” Much like Daniel in the movie, I too had a Mr. Miyagi, who was teaching me the mysteries of karate through many different aspects of training that I did not understand at the time but grew to greatly appreciate.    Mr. Miyagi’s methods Most readers will remember the plot of the movie; Mr. Miyagi agrees to train Daniel in karate, but he begins by […]

Omar Aleman: Mission Accomplished

(What mission is God calling you to do? Scroll down to leave a comment.) What could these disparate folks possibly have in common: John the Baptist, Mahatma Gandhi, Isaac Newton, Leonardo da Vinci, John Lennon and Betty White? They were all reared as only children… as I was. Although this is not the time nor place to do a “deep dive” on this cast of characters, most experts agree on the basic characteristics of “unaccompanied souls” like me. “We” tend to be independent to a fault, are overachievers, appear wise beyond our years, can keep ourselves amused, don’t care much […]

Grace Coleman: Why Do We Sing?

Scroll down to leave a comment on why do we sing worship. For those of us who have grown up in church, singing before and after a sermon is perfectly normal. In fact, it’s expected. However, when I invite unchurched friends to a Sunday morning service, I take in the experience through their eyes and suddenly everything seems unusual – especially the singing part. We use a language that is foreign to the world. Sure, we try to make church “relevant” to a wide range of cultures, but the Bible, though written thousands of years ago, is applicable to each […]

Gene L. Green, PhD: Message and Method

Paul’s Message of the Cross and the Philosophers They were the “rock stars” of their day. Traveling orators who espoused a variety of philosophies were commonplace in the central marketplaces of ancient Greek and Latin cities. The apostle Paul met up with them in Athens. He went toe to toe with the Epicureans and Stoics who gathered in the agora to peddle their philosophies. In the debate, they derided the apostle: “What does this babbler want to say?” (Acts 17:18) They tagged him as a “seed picker” (translated “babbler’) who espoused random ideas gathered from here and there.  Paul’s message […]

Dr. Debra A. Schwinn: Camp Provides Fun, Friendship and Caring Community

For those of you, like me, who cherish memories from a Christian summer camp, I invite you to imagine what it takes to provide youngsters that exuberant, life-changing experience. Consider, for example, what you’ll find at Camp Canaan in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  On the front lines, look for attentive, patient, fun-loving camp counselors like Palm Beach Atlantic University senior Brenna Brown, who loves romping through a mud-fest with a passel of screaming teens. Brenna at Camp Canaan “I just fell in love with Camp Canaan,” said Brenna. “There’s so much passion there, passion in teaching about God and passion […]
