True Impact Happens Through Connection

When my wife Michelle and I first got saved over 15 years ago one of the very first outreach projects we did with our church was delivering Thanksgiving meals to families in need. All of these years later I remember that day so vividly. This wonderfully kind woman answered her door and eagerly invited us in – even though at the time I was so out of my element, I felt right at ease connecting with her. She wasn’t just grateful for the food we were bringing but for the friendship and connection we were offering. Even now I can […]

My Echo Chamber

One of my favorite scenes from the hit movie, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” which debuted in the year 2000, is when the Grinch speaks with his echo. The scene opens with the Grinch speaking to his dog Max and reassuring himself that he is just fine being alone with his thoughts and doesn’t need anyone. He then proceeds to speak with his echo.   Grinch: How are you? Echo: How are you, are you, you, you? Grinch: I asked you first! Echo: I asked you first, you first, first, first! Grinch: [sarcastically] Oh right, that’s really mature, saying exactly […]

Critical Court Rulings Set Stage for a Fight for Life on the November Ballot

The Florida Supreme Court on April 1st upheld the state’s 15-week abortion limit but also greenlighted a radical pro-abortion ballot measure that could wipe out all protections for the unborn in the state of Florida. The Court’s Rulings Explained The court’s seemingly contradictory rulings in the two closely watched cases set the stage for a major battle this year between the pro-life movement and abortion extremists who are seeking to enshrine abortion on demand in the Florida Constitution. In the case regarding Florida’s 15-week abortion law, the court voted 6-1 to reject the ACLU’s argument that the Florida Constitution’s right […]

Franklin Graham: The Hope of the Resurrection

It was my privilege to be in Israel recently to film a special Easter message from Jerusalem, where our Lord was crucified. Standing in front of Joseph of Arimathea’s rock-hewn tomb, I gave the Gospel invitation to trust in the risen Savior whom God raised from the dead so that all who believe in Him can receive the gift of eternal life.  In our troubled world, where there is so much confusion, chaos and calamity, the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is our only sure and certain hope. Every other hope is vain, every other hope is futile, every […]

Pastor Doug Sauder: A Decade of Collaborative Leadership Leads Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale into its 40th Year

Described as a strong, humble, collaborative leader and gifted communicator by his peers, Doug Sauder, lead pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, appears gentle as a dove when he addresses one of Florida’s largest congregations on the weekends, but those who know him best portray a fierce competitor on the basketball court and a man of deep courage when it comes to fighting for the vulnerable. While these traits may seem contradictory, Sauder explained, “One of my favorite verses is Matthew 11:12, ‘From the days of John the Baptist till now, the Kingdom of God has been forcefully advancing.’ This […]

What is the strangest or most exotic thing you’ve ever eaten, and where were you at the time?

This month, Good News Wants to Know… What is the strangest or most exotic thing you’ve ever eaten, and where were you at the time? While on our honeymoon in Napa Valley, I told a server at a stunning restaurant to bring me the absolute best thing on the menu. He brought me one of the best meals I’ve ever had! Later I found out I ate “sweetbreads” and just about passed out when I learned what sweetbreads are… that is the thymus or pancreas of a calf or lamb! Karen Granger, Director of Community Relations, 4KIDS Palm Beach   Other than a […]

The Three “Empty” Promises of Easter

Now that I have your undivided attention, let me assure you that the phrase “empty promises” in the title above is a play on words and has absolutely nothing to do with the empty promises of this world. An empty promise is uttered with no intent to fulfill it; it is worthless, meaningless. Advertisements for almost every imaginable product imply promises that we can be wealthy, healthy, attractive, happy, popular and successful if we will just buy whatever it is. We can be assured that God does not make empty promises because all of His promises are “Yes” and “Amen” […]

Employee or Contractor? Businesses Must Beware of Changing Rules

The Good News provides a monthly column with important content having to do with topics from the legal community. This month features a conversation with Paul Lopez, director and COO of Tripp Scott. When is a worker with your business an employee – or an independent contractor? The answer is critical and can vary for the same worker depending on what agency you’re dealing with, in which state or with the federal government. And oh, yeah: it’s ever-changing. On March 11, it will change again. A Biden Department of Labor (DOL) rule will take effect with guidelines on determining who […]
