Voorhies to Lead Newly-Created Center for Biblical Leadership

Palm Beach Atlantic University has created a new Center for Biblical Leadership and named executive leadership consultant Dr. Sam Voorhies to direct it. He officially begins this new role July 1, 2019.

In a society where the morality and ethics of leaders are crumbling, PBA envisions the Center for Biblical Leadership to be a place that brings together students and leadership practitioners to consider current challenges of leading both business and ministry organizations from a biblical world view. Students will have the opportunity to explore these topics through coursework, guest lectures and engaging with Christian leaders practicing a biblical approach to leadership in the workplace.

The Center for Biblical Leadership in the Catherine T. MacArthur School of Leadership is the university’s sixth Center of Excellence — an area of focus that allows select, highly-motivated students to gain special knowledge and expertise in a specific field. The center is made possible through the visionary leadership and amazing faithfulness of the trustees and friends of PBA.

Voorhies, the center’s new director, has been president and CEO of Voorhies International Consulting since 2010. He taught various courses at seminaries and universities around the world from 1990 to 2017 and held several leadership roles during a career of more than 25 years at World Vision, an international Christian humanitarian aid organization. As World Vision’s global director for leadership and organizational development, Voorhies led key initiatives in the development of leaders and organizational change across 100 offices in an organization with a $2.5 billion budget and staff of 40,000.

He graduated from Florida State University with a doctorate in international development. Additionally, he earned a post graduate certificate in human resource management and organizational development from FSU. He graduated from Wheaton College Graduate School with a Master of Arts in education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southeastern Louisiana University and another in theology from Oregon Bible College.

In his new role at PBA, Voorhies will oversee the development and implementation of educational programs; organize and lead an advisory board that will serve as the center’s ambassadors, and promote the center through presentations, strategic networking and involvement in community events. He will teach in the Catherine T. MacArthur School of Leadership.

“After a year-long national search, we have found in Dr. Sam Voorhies someone who is perfectly gifted to launch our Center for Biblical Leadership,” said Dr. Craig Domeck, dean of the MacArthur School of Leadership. “Sam and his wife — Emily — will be a great fit with the MacArthur School of Leadership team and culture, as well the entire PBA community.”

Palm Beach Atlantic University is a private, independent university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in West Palm Beach, Orlando and online. The University is dedicated to the integration of Christian principles to prepare students for learning, leadership and service.
