The annual Christmas by the Sea event will be held at Anglin’s Square, at the corner of Commercial Boulevard and El-Mar Drive, on December 2nd from 5:30 – 9 p.m. with a tree lighting at 6:15 p.m. The event will feature the 3rd annual “Best-Dressed Window” award,  holiday carolers and dancers, live band, a Yuletide Market, children’s activities and of course, a visit with Santa! You can help create the program for this hour of music.  The Chancel Choir will sing, and members of the audience will have an opportunity to suggest hymns to be accompanied by brass, organ and piano.  Afterward, we’ll adjourn to the Fellowship Halls for refreshments. The Nova Singers will present Maurice Duruflé’s magnificent Requiem with orchestra, organ and percussion. Completed in 1947, this monumental work of Duruflé is based upon themes found in the Gregorian chant, “Mass for the Dead.”  In the second half of the program, the Nova Singers will present some of the music to be performed on their 2016 European concert tour of Budapest, Vienna and Prague.  The Nova Singers have been singing in South Florida for 40 years.  Artistic Director Chuck Stanley also is the Director of Music Ministry for Christ Church. One of the nation’s premier concert choirs from a historically black university will come to Christ Church. Garrett Martin, former organist at Coral Ridge Presbyterian, returns to Fort Lauderdale to perform and to accompany a silent movie.  Since 2013, Garrett has been the organist and director of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, NY,  where he directs and oversee the church’s five choirs and The Westminster Choir School, plans worship, maintains the two historic Aeolian-Skinner organs and five Steinway grand pianos, coordinates a concert series, and conducts and plays in all worship services. $10 at the door. The Children’s Live Nativity will take place across from the Pompano Beach Chapel, 201 NE 2nd St. Children of the Early Learning Center re-enact Christ’s birth. Children of the community are invited to put on costumes and join the fun. Afterward, children, families and the community are invited to the Pompano Beach Sanctuary for cookies and hot chocolate. DivorceCare is a 12-week Biblically based program for those separated or divorced on Tuesdays January 19 – April 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel East Boca, 1551 West Camino Real. Video and Small Group discussions.
