Is there a phrase or saying you’ve adopted that inspires you to be your best each day—or something you repeat to yourself during challenging moments that helps you press on?

In her first public remarks since the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a devout Christian, Erika Kirk shared that each week he asked her, “How can I be a better husband to you today?” Good News Wants to Know… Is there a phrase or saying you’ve adopted that inspires you to be your best each day—or something you repeat to yourself during challenging moments that helps you press on?

Bernard King Sr.

As we live and travel on this terrestrial ball that is tied to tribulation, I turn to the Lord by reminding myself to love the Lord over myself and Listen and Lock into the Leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Bernard King Sr., Pastor, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship

William “Bill” C. Davell

The Christian song “I Am Not Alone” by Kari Jobe is a great encouragement to me.  “I am not alone; I am not alone.  You will go before me; You will never leave me… In the midst of deep sorrow, your light is breaking through… Through these trials you have always been faithful; you bring healing to my soul…”

William “Bill” C. Davell, Director, Tripp Scott

Bob Denison

Hundreds of times a day I tell myself: “Be cool.” It hardly ever works.

Bob Denison, President, Denison Yachting

Chip LaMarca

I don’t have a specific phrase, but I have a common thought each day. Having lost my father just before my first birthday, I live every day in a way that I hope model’s his amazing character and integrity. I live each day to the level that he would have expected, and I believe that is the same way that Our Creator would expect me to live each day. Of course, I fall short many days, but I get back up and keep trying my absolute best.

Chip LaMarca, State Representative, Florida House District 100

Chris Lane

My life verse is….  “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).  I always try to ask myself, “How can I glorify God in this?”

Chris Lane, President, First Priority of South Florida

H. Collins Forman, Jr., Esquire

What comes to mind for me is Romans 8: 31-32 which says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”

A second thing I remember is that God has never let me down yet, but he’s sure scared me to death a few times.

H. Collins Forman, Jr., Esquire

Craig D. Huston

The one phrase I’ve adopted that inspires me to be my best each day is, “How can I add the most value to the person in front of me right now?” The question takes the focus off of me by reminding me that I’m here to serve others.

Craig D. Huston, Summit Achievers

As I occasionally encounter tense business or personal situations, and pride rises up, I remind myself, “Go lower still.” Consider others first. Be like Jesus. Wash their feet. It immediately diffuses the atmosphere.

Deborah Cusick, FAU Volunteer, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship

Dennis DeMarois

On a regular basis, I pray over my kids and wife this ending of every morning prayer… “Lord, help us to bring fame to your name and a good reputation to our family too.”

Dennis DeMarois, Executive Director/CEO, Gathering Palm Beach County

Dolores King St. George

During daily prayer, I do ask the Lord to increase my faith, and to show me how He wants to use me that day, whether I am facing a particular work project or how I can be a better help to my husband and family, or even just to give me an opportunity to comfort someone, serve someone, or give the gospel to someone that day. I heard my mother, and her parents pray like that when I was a child, and their examples have stayed with me.

Dolores King St. George, King Communications and GraceNet Radio

Don Campion

In challenging moments, I like the phrase: “reasonable people do reasonable things.” So often we try to convince or explain something to an unreasonable person. Do not waste your time or enable the negativity to ruin your day, move on.

Don Campion, President, Banyan Air Service, and Team Lead, Egbe Medical Mission

Doug Sauder

I think of the words of the Apostle Paul, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27).

The reality is, we never know what a day will bring, or what it will bring out of us — but we know Jesus. And His Spirit in us can help us to respond to the worst the world has to offer in the way that He would.

Doug Sauder, Pastor, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale

I call them “breath prayers.” Every time something pops in my head that may have happened moments ago or years ago, I find myself saying “I love you, Father.” It is my way of thanking God for forgiving me for my sin!

Dr. Fred Scarbrough, Founder, Scarbrough Animal Hospital and HOPE South Florida

Gregg Wallick

Help me Jesus.

Gregg Wallick, Wallick Family Office

Helen Wayner, P.A.

“This too shall pass.” And Jeremiah 29:11 has been a Truth that I have leaned on and repeatedly spoken since I was a young girl. Life changes, people come and go. Loving God, family, forgiveness and sharing Jesus is all that matters.”

Helen Wayner P.A., Century 21 Hansen Realty

Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D.

The phrase that always sticks with me is “I choose you.”  It is a phrase that means a lot.  Sometimes I say it to my husband to remind him how much I love him.  And I know God says it to me every day and challenges me to find a way to share that love forward.

Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., President/CEO, Community Foundation of Broward

Jesse Carroccio

“Sometimes you have to do the unfun things to get to the fun things.” This may not sound very spiritual, but it reminds me to keep a long-term perspective, and for me, that includes an eternal perspective.

Jesse Carroccio, Community Impact Director, Moody Global Media

Justus Martin

In extra challenging times the phrase is a prayer — “God, help me grow. Make me equivalent to the task.”

Ken Kerrigan

A phrase that inspires me daily comes from my life verse, Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” In moments of challenge or uncertainty, I remind myself that I don’t have to have all the answers, God does. Placing my trust in Him gives me the strength and peace to press on, knowing He is always faithful to guide my steps.

Ken Kerrigan, Pastor, Calvary Chapel Pompano Beach

Larry Lacy

No worries! Gotta keep movin’ in Jesus Name!

Larry Lacy, Pastor, The Answer Church

Laura C. Bishop

If God has called me, He will equip me.

Laura C. Bishop, Executive Vice President of Development, Palm Beach Atlantic University

Dr. Mary Drabik

One phrase I remind myself of often is, “Jesus never said it was going to be easy, but He did say it would be worth it.” It helps me press on during challenges because it shifts my focus from the struggle in front of me to the purpose and hope that lie ahead.

Dr. Mary Drabik, President, South Florida Bible College & Theological Seminary

Mike McDermott

For certain, things in life do not go as we necessarily want or plan. In those times I fall back on the verse I used when I was first baptized: Proverbs 16:8 “A man’s heart plans his way but the Lord determines his steps.” I later linked that with Proverbs 16:3  “Commit your activities to the Lord and your plans will be achieved.”  After that I just try to remember that God is good, all the time!

Mike McDermott, Seniors and Probate Specialist, The Keyes Company

Dr. Mike Rozenblum

For me there are actually two. One is my life verse, Mark 8:36 “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” The other is way more simple: “Remember the Cross.” Our Lord publicly hung after being persecuted, humiliated and abused. Why should my life be any different? We will all go through seasons, good and bad, thankfully this is not our final home.

Dr. Mike Rozenblum, Genesis Physical Medicine and Chiropractic

Milan Stefanovic

My father used to say to me ever since I was a young boy, “There are no shortcuts or easy ways to excellence and success.” This statement has helped me many times when I felt like quitting or giving minimal effort. It encourages me to always give my best and to continue to strive forward. My father passed away this year at the age of 92. He will be missed.

Milan Stefanovic, Chief Operations & Personal Lines Officer, Bass Underwriters

Oksana Horton

“For a dream comes with much business and painful effort”  (Ecclesiastes 5:3 AMPC).  When confronted by many challenges, this scripture speaks to me and gets me through.

Oksana Horton, Creative Director, Torch and Trumpet Theatre Company

O’Neal Dozier

To be my best each day for Christ Jesus, and to be the kind of servant Christ Jesus wants me to be, I wake up each morning, praising the Lord and thanking the Lord for saving my soul and filling me with His Holy Spirit. I also say constantly with my mouth and in my mind, Lord Jesus, I humble myself before thee and I ask you to mold me and shape me into your likeness. The rest of my day is spent praising the Lord Christ Jesus and thanking Him for showing mercy towards me, my family, and all mankind.

O’Neal Dozier, Pastor, The Worldwide Christian Center

Patricia Colangelo

Every day I ask myself how can I best serve God? Did I do my best, was I a light to others, did I show compassion, grace and love? Sometimes I fail, but each day I try to improve. None of us are perfect but we can try to follow the Father and show love in all we say and do.

Patricia Colangelo, South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary

Coach Rick Andreassen

I’ve been a Christian for nearly 40 years, and one practice that I adopted early on, and continue today, is that every morning, as soon as I open my eyes, I slip off the side of my bed and kneel bedside. I Pray Hebrews 12:2, that God would help me “keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of my Faith”

Kneeling bedside is not so much the position of my body, as it is the posture of my heart before the Lord….knowing HE IS FAITHFUL!!

Coach Rick Andreassen, Founder and President, SAINTS Homeschool P.E. and SAINTS International Sports Ministry

Romney C. Rogers

Pray without ceasing!

Romney C. Rogers, Managing Partner, Rogers, Morris & Ziegler LLP

Dr. Scott Manor

In moments of anxiety, frustration or fatigue, I’ve repeated the simple three word prayer, “patience and grace,” over and over. That’s what I need from the Lord, and that’s what I hope to give to others.

Dr. Scott Manor, President and Professor of Historical Theology, Knox Theological Seminary

Steve Daigle

A phrase that both my wife and I adopted many years ago early into our marriage is a daily question to each other of “How can I pray for you?” One of our pastors recommended this as a way to learn what is going on in each other’s lives, have a daily routine of prayer together and always pray for each other. We alternate every other day where I would ask and pray one day, and my wife will do it the other day. As we are constantly asking and answering this question daily, it encourages us that no matter what is going on in our lives, God is in control, and we can take our request to Him for ourselves and each other. In these dark times, as we seek the Lord in prayer, it is a reminder that His Light shines brightest in the darkness.

Steve Daigle, Campus Pastor, Calvary Chapel Parkland

Steve Solomon

It was the summer of 1998.  My son Eric and I were at a CBMC family conference outside Asheville, North Carolina. In a small men’s group, we did a devotion and brothers shared. One of the brothers said the key to him finding peace each day is to get the vertical right with God and God takes care of the horizontal. I’ve lived with that as my goal each and every day. It wasn’t until in recent years, I realized that getting the vertical right and God taking care of the horizontal is the cross.

Steve Solomon, Area Director, CBMC South Florida

Thomas L. Lukasik

Never Give Up! In 1972, I walked on the Kent State football team. Six weeks later, I quit. That team went on to win the Mid-American Conference. God convicted me, from then on, to never give up on what He has called me to!

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9 NIV).

Thomas L. Lukasik, Chief Advocacy Officer, 4KIDS
