Stylists and Students Bring Dignity to Kids in Foster Care

Speak Up For Kids of Palm Beach County, Downtown Roots Salon, Good News Media Group, March 2026Speak Up For Kids of Palm Beach County recently hosted its annual community hair care and confidence-building event, bringing together professional stylists, student leaders, and volunteers to support children living in foster care.

Speak Up For Kids of Palm Beach County, Downtown Roots Salon, Good News Media Group, March 2026Held in partnership with Downtown Roots Salon, the event was designed to promote dignity, normalcy, and self-worth for children who have experienced trauma. For many children in foster care, experiences that may seem routine such as professional hair care play a critical role in reinforcing identity, confidence and emotional well-being.

This event was led by the STUDENTS Speak Up For Kids chapter at Spanish River High School, exemplifying the power of student-driven service. Through this chapter model, high school students engage directly in advocacy and hands-on volunteerism, gaining a deeper understanding of the child welfare system while making a tangible impact on children’s lives.

Salon professionals generously donated their time and expertise, including Downtown Roots Salon owner Caitlin Tominosian, stylists Julie Lake and Liv Bennet, alongside committed student advocates Amy S., Evangeline H., and Jade A.

Speak Up For Kids does not duplicate services provided by the child welfare system. They fill critical gaps by funding and coordinating supports that help children feel valued and supported. Visit speakupforkidspbc.org
