Church United Serves MSD High School And Calls for Back-to-School Prayer

As Church United, we firmly believe that the Church, God’s people, should be the first responders to our community’s lostness, pain and brokenness. Our words and our actions are shaped by the fundamental belief that the Church of Jesus Christ is the hope of the world — and certainly the hope of South Florida. If we’re honest, hope has been a bit hard to grasp for many in our community this year. The events that unfolded at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School earlier this year have left a lasting scar, reminding us that heaven has yet to be realized. However […]

The Power of Prophecy

(Scroll down to leave a comment on the power of prophecy.) As a pastor, I am often asked how we can know for sure that the Bible is truly the Word of God.  When confronted with this question, many Christians frequently respond by quoting 2 Timothy 3:15 — “All Scripture is God-breathed . . .” That is certainly a glorious, God-breathed truth, but when you use that verse to prove the reliability of Scripture to the serious skeptic, that unbeliever will often reply, “That’s circular reasoning! You’re telling me that the Bible is the Word of God because the Bible […]

Underwhelmed

“But you are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love…” (Nehemiah 9:17) They each blundered big under a varying set of circumstances. Eve reached for the fruit, Sarah handed over her maid, Moses slammed the rock, David hatched a deadly plot, and the children of Israel rebelled at the edge of the Promised Land. How might their stories have been different if their belief in the character of God was greater than their view of themselves? What might have occurred if they had elevated God’s righteousness above their own selfish rights […]

The Miracle of Ella Nicole

Stephen and Aimee couldn’t wait to share the good news. They were expecting their first child, a baby girl.  “We did a big reveal. We had balloons and everything. When I saw those pink balloons come out of that box, I could not have been happier. A baby girl is everything I ever wanted,” said Stephen. “We just hoped to have a happy, healthy family that loves each other and serves God together,” said Aimee. Aimee’s pregnancy went as planned until the seventh month when she was diagnosed with preeclampsia — a complication of pregnancy that caused a spike in […]

He-Brews Specialty Coffee: Hip and Holy Grounds

Russ Perreault, owner of He-Brews Specialty Coffee in Coral Springs, has unleashed a passion for Christ, and his leaps of faith energize you in a way that no mere jolt of espresso can do. Though not a church, this café does feel Spirit-filled while infusing a welcoming, hip vibe:  a perfect blend. (Yep, coffee-related puns along the way. You’ve bean forewarned.) Walking into the newly opened coffeehouse, you may feel it’s a bit bare with its warehouse/industrial décor and open space. You definitely would not think anything churchy would be happening here.  But in looking closer, there is a great […]

Beautiful Applause

“She has done a beautiful thing to me” (Mark 14:6). Their names are not even mentioned, and yet the Lord bestowed the highest praise on three women who demonstrated courage in difficult circumstances. Their ordinary lives are not memorials for us to simply admire, but to emulate, compelling us to love the Lord more deeply and trust him more completely right where we are today. We meet one woman as she entered Simon’s house in Bethany “with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table” (Matthew 26:7). Some of […]

The Midwest Meets the Middle East

“Can’t wait to see snow,” was my reaction when I learned that I had to travel to Chicago on a business trip at the ripe age of 22. I took a night flight, and although cold, the drive to the hotel was pleasant. A date at the federal courthouse awaited me the next morning, and since my lodging was only a couple of blocks from my destination, I decided to “hoof it.” And there it was… white, wet, cold snow. However, this stuff had no resemblance to what I had seen on television. Instead of falling from the sky, the […]

The 21-Day Slow

I typically don’t like to fast. I know it’s important, and it’s encouraged throughout the Bible. I know that there are many benefits to fasting. The clarity and focus that occurs as one intently focuses on Jesus is something supernatural. I have dear friends who fast regularly for extended times and speak of its benefits. I still don’t like to fast. I have fasted many times and frankly, will fast again. However, did I say I don’t like to fast? 21-Day Fast Our church has, over the past few years, encouraged its community to fast for the twenty one days […]
