First Prioirity

The United States ranks as the fourth-largest mission field in the world. Millennials (those born between 1978 and 2000) in our nation number 95 million, with only 15 percent identifying themselves as evangelicals. This is the very definition of a post-Christian nation. A staggering 96 percent of South Florida’s population is lost or unchurched, even though many vibrant gospel-centered congregations exist in our community. The answer is not replacing the church but connecting Christ and culture through the local church. Author and Pastor, J.D. Greear, reminds us that “of the 40 miracles recorded in the book of Acts, 39 happened […]

New Local Thrift Store Supports Missions

A new thrift store, World of Hope, opened its doors in North Lauderdale for the first time last month. World of Hope seeks to do just what its name implies — offer the hope of Jesus to the world. With a retail location as a furniture and thrift store, World of Hope is raising funds to provide support to Broward County’s homeless and helpless. A heart to help The vision for the store was birthed four years ago when founder Leo Dodier, along with his wife Donna, felt the call to make a difference in their community. Romans 8:28 reminds […]

Justice for Israel

A small but growing circle of Christian leaders is seeking to lead evangelicals in America away from support for Israel and are doing so under the banner of “social justice” and “just peacemaking.” These leaders are portraying themselves as “pro-Israel, pro-Palestinian, pro-peace and pro-justice.” While their intentions may be good, they are actually playing into the hands of a larger, more sinister campaign seeking to delegitimize and demonize Israel. Even more disturbing, their words expose a trend in the evangelical world to disregard the authority of the Bible. They deny the irrevocable calling on the Jewish people and they teach […]

What is Divorce Costing You?

What happens when couples have healthy marriages? They are happier and healthier, live longer, are more financially stable, have better sex and intimacy, handle stress better, and raise children who have significantly better chances for success as they grow into adulthood. On the contrary, virtually every societal ill is rooted in the breakdown of the family. Divorce rates have escalated over the past 50 years. Between 1960 and 2010, U.S. divorce rates have increased from 26% to 42%. 11 of the 50 U.S. cities with the highest divorce rates are found in Florida. This is how South Florida ranks: • […]

Child Exploitation in Mozambique

Human trafficking has exploded into a global epidemic in the past decade. While this horrible injustice is propagated upon innocents in nearly every corner of the globe, children in the nation of Mozambique in particular are being preyed upon in epic proportions. Sadly, thousands of orphans in Mozambique have no place to call home, no one to protect them, and no safe refuge. They eventually end up on the streets all alone with no real protection, becoming perfect candidates for human traffickers, brothel owners and evil men and women to exploit them. The problem Mozambique has had a turbulent and […]

The House of Horrors

You may not know what happened at 3801 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Going unnoticed for years, under the guise of a medical practice, there was a kind of ongoing holocaust occurring. The building was given the name, “House of Horrors,” because of what the FBI and the detectives found on those premises on February 18, 2010. These despicable acts took place at an impressive three-story brick building positioned where everybody could see the stately structure dividing two well-traveled streets. In the center of the building, you can’t miss the picture image of a man and a woman holding a […]

Shonta’s Story of HOPE

South Florida is one of the most beautiful, yet broken places in our nation. In one sense, we live in paradise as we daily enjoy what others pay to experience. In another sense, South Florida takes everything that is broken about our world and puts it on a giant billboard for all to see. One painful example of our community’s brokenness is homelessness. According to the most recent count reported by the Florida Council on Homelessness, the South Florida, tri-county area reported 9,726 men, women and children who are homeless. In Broward County alone, over 150 families are on the […]

The Glass Ceiling Effect

If a man and a woman, both one-year post college graduation with the same degree, work the same job, for the same number of hours, they should both be earning the same salary, correct? Actually, according to the American Association of University Women (AAUW), which analyzed data from a Department of Education survey of 15,000 graduates, this is not the case. The men earned an average of 7 percent more than women did. While CNN Money reported that this gender gap could be attributed to the fact that women are not likely to negotiate as much as men do, the […]

Guardian ad Litem Program

By: Jeff Stuncard ‘For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in; naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you, or thirsty, and give you drink? ‘And when did we see you a stranger, and invite you in, or naked, and clothe you? ‘And when did we see you sick, or […]

A Prescribed Epidemic

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every three minutes, a woman goes to the emergency room for prescription painkiller misuse or abuse. The CDC also reports that nearly 48,000 women died of prescription medication overdoses between 1999 and 2010. This is a fast growing epidemic, especially for women. Deaths among women have increased more than 400 percent since 1999, compared to 265 percent among men. Furthermore, for every woman who dies of a prescription painkiller overdose, another 30 end up in hospital emergency rooms for prescription drug misuse or abuse. What is the problem? “Wait a […]
