The Mission and The Storm

I was falling asleep the other evening and thinking about all the “storms” we have been facing over the past few years. Many of the storms have caught national and international attention. Some of the storms are personal and private. However, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and depressed…. perhaps a bit exhausted with the relentless waves of heavy and painful stories. I ,once again, like to reflect on a very familiar story that has been with me all my life (I originally published this a few years ago…..so, I guess it’s as relevant today as it was then). Jesus […]

Liberated from the Incarceration of “IF ONLY”

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).   We all have an inner critic that must be kept in check if we are going to live lives for the glory of God and the good of others, including ourselves. Because we are broken people living in a broken world with other broken people, our lives will inevitably be marked by brokenness, personally, professionally and relationally.     Our inner critic One of the favorite focal points for our inner critic comes under the heading of If only. Satan loves […]

Franklin Graham: We Can Still Turn Back

On Nov. 8, tens of millions of voters will head to polls across America in the most crucial midterm elections in recent history.  To say that much is at stake is a gross understatement. It isn’t just control of Congress; it may be our last chance to stop the immoral and ungodly policies that have brought our great nation to the moral brink of disaster.   “It may be our last chance to stop the immoral and ungodly policies that have brought our great nation to the moral brink of disaster.” The floodgates of Sodom and Gomorrah have seemingly swung wide […]

The Way We Were

Finally, it’s time to board the airplane. After waiting in the airport for about 2 hours, we were ready to board the flight so we could get a few hours of sleep. About 30 minutes into the flight the captain came on the intercom and said that we would be cruising about 34,000 feet, and there were good and clear skies ahead of us in our journey to Fort Lauderdale. My wife and I had just finished our second week of back-to-back trips to take two of our young adult children back to school. As I settled into my seat, […]

School Is Back in Session… How Is It Going?

School has been back in session for a few weeks. By now, the start of your child’s academic year is either progressing extremely well with no issues; it has been a rough start or a mixture and blend of all experiences (perceived as positive or negative). Whether the start of the school year is going as you expected or not, there is an opportunity to evaluate the academic strengths and areas of growth. As parents we can help our child(ren) be engaged, equipped and empowered to achieve their own unique level of academic success.   A Need to Nurture, not […]

Homeschool? Me?

I grew up going to traditional schools (private and public). As an adult, I ended up teaching every possible subject from physical education to social studies, and then I had kids. My intentions were to send them to school because that is how I grew up, and I turned out fine, right?  Homeschooling When my oldest son, Noah, was three and a half years old and my daughter was seven months old, I phoned a friend saying my oldest needed some “socialization.” She homeschooled and invited me to join the homeschool group she attended. I remember telling her, “I AM […]
