Legacy Partners Dinner Celebrates Lives Saved

Musical Artist Matt Hammitt, of Sanctus Real, performed at the Hope Women’s Centers Legacy Partners Dinner on September 28th, then shared the heart wrenching story of receiving news that his newborn son’s heart had stopped beating. His son, Bowen was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a condition that leaves the heart severely underdeveloped. Multiple doctors told them that the child would not survive, and they should end his life in the womb. Miraculously, their son did live and Hammitt shared the lessons his family learned about love, life and the faithfulness of God. Later, Hammitt’s now teenage son, Bowen, […]

Crumbs, Milk and Honey

There is a saying we have all heard: “Is the glass half full or half empty?” The beauty of that saying is that it hinges on perspective. The essence of the word picture is that a glass, filled halfway with water, can be perceived as almost full or almost empty. There are times in my life that I see things from both perspectives. Half empty triggers in me a sense of scarcity, implying that things will get progressively more challenging with less available resources. Half full triggers a sense of abundance, implying that things will get progressively better because resources […]

God’s Glory or My Gain?

“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name” (Isaiah 25:1). There are only two reasons to do anything in life. One is for personal gain and the other is for God’s glory. One is to serve the self and the other is to serve our Savior. One is to advance the cause of our little kingdom and the other is to advance the cause of the Kingdom of God. The Scriptures are full of examples of both, and it is always a good idea to inventory our hearts from time to time to see just […]

How Well Do You Know Yourself?

Working with marriages and families over the past twenty-plus years has been illuminating for me. I’ve found that most of us don’t know ourselves well. Like others, we know things about ourselves, our favorite colors, our taste in food, where we were born, what we like to do, who we hang out with, what we do for work, and what our talents are, but if someone asks us what our core beliefs and values are, we might have to pause.  As a Christian, I could answer without hesitation that I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of […]

Congratulations NCF on Your First 20

This month we cover feature the 20th Anniversary of the National Christian Foundation of South Florida, known simply as “NCF.” Good News Editor, Shelly Pond covers the ascension, vital growth and importance of those two decades on pages 20 and 21.  I’ll let the fascinating story speak for itself. I no longer consider myself a new believer, and my old friends curiously ask me two questions: why? And, am I no longer a Jew? With my new friends I find myself being asked two questions: Do you know Jesus? And, do you know Stephan? I first met NCFSF Co-Founder Stephan Tchividjian sometime in […]

Big News at First Baptist Fort Lauderdale

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, Pastor David Hughes addressed the congregation: “Church, we had a situation here,” and proceeded to tell the group “due to a technicality” and for one reason or another bottom line, First Baptist Fort Lauderdale appeared to be “late” with the mortgage payment. “All churches generally have mortgages just like us… I won’t get into all the details, but it happened,” Hughes went on…. And the lender called the note in for the $3.5 million dollars owed. Gasp! “That’s not all; I was angry feeling they were trying to take advantage of us because this is […]

National Christian Foundation South Florida Reflects on 20 Years of Impact

In March of 2003, Fort Lauderdale community leaders and hundreds of churches joined forces during Spring Break to host BeachFest, led by the late Evangelist Luis Palau, which attracted hundreds of thousands of attendees and resulted in more than 5,000 decisions for Christ. As this unprecedented event reached its crescendo after years of planning, Stephan Tchividjian, CEO and Co-Founder of the National Christian Foundation, said, “We began to ask, what has this started and how could we carry this momentum on?” That conversation led to the founding of what is now the National Christian Foundation of South Florida (NCFSF), a […]

Franklin Graham: Courts Are Crucial, but God Is Supreme

The 2024 elections are still more than a year away, but the historic Supreme Court decisions from this past June remind us just how far-reaching election results can be. In a landmark 6-3 decision, the justices ruled in favor of Colorado Christian graphic designer Lorie Smith, who did not want to use her design skills to promote same-sex weddings. This has struck a tremendous blow to the LGBTQ lobby, which seeks to force its immoral lifestyle on any who disagree, particularly, Bible-believing Christians who stand on God’s Word, which does not condone any form of homosexual or transgender behavior.  This […]
