Leslie Feldman: What am I doing here?

What am I doing here? I find myself way over my head as I’m reminded with more frequency that there are cultural differences in our worldview and to stay in my own lane. So I try to limit my pontification, but that’s not easy for someone like me. I’m reminded that my mind easily wanders in and out of song lyrics perhaps to detach myself that I’m not alone in my craziness of thought, even for a moment? That’s life. Humm…. “That’s life”   “That’s what all the people say You’re riding high in April, shot down in May But […]

Dr. O.S. Hawkins: The Most Often Quoted Verse in the Bible

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) If we ever memorize a verse of Scripture, it will most likely be John 3:16. It is the verse most often heard in the simplicity and beauty of a little child’s voice, proudly reciting it from memory. It is the one verse showing up on large placards at football games and other major sporting events. Those signs are located where television cameras cannot avoid its message. This is the one verse that many […]

MY GOD STORY-Message Left Behind

(Scroll down to leave a comment/message on this God Story!) My God Story happened 51 years ago when my father died suddenly of a heart attack in bed! When Vee and I arrived at my parents’ home, Dad was already gone. The electric clock by Dad’s side of the bed read 1:10 a.m. Mom said the clock always worked, but for some unknown reason it stopped about the time Dad passed away! Mom went to the clock repair shop to repair it, but they were unable! So three days later right after the funeral, my aunt and I walked out […]

Amber Harrison: Village Hymns Cohort Develops Worship Leaders

Village Hymns started about five years ago as worship leaders all over South Florida gathered together to write songs for the local church. In those gatherings, worship leaders from different churches began to form new friendships and bonded over sharing the common struggles of ministry. The realization that they weren’t alone in ministry gave them encouragement and worship leaders began to support each other in new ways. Cohorts and Leaders As Village Hymns moved forward as an organization, we began to see the need for serving these worship leaders in our community. Our heart was not just for new songs […]

Dr. Debra A. Schwinn: Kindred Spirits Help Others

In 1 Corinthians 16 we learn the Apostle Paul saw a great door of opportunity for his upcoming work, but he also saw significant obstacles in the way. I want to tell you about two hard-working business students whose stories explain much about overcoming obstacles, taking advantage of opportunities and extending opportunity to others.  A pair of kindred spirits These two students never met, for they were generations apart, but I see them as kindred spirits. The first was Theodore R. “Ted” Johnson, who was born into a middle-class family in 1901. He worked his way through college and joined […]
