ChurchUnited Fosters Uncommon Partnership

These days it seems as if churches are known more about what they are against, rather than what they are for. However, God seems to be up to something in our tri-county area. There is a movement called ChurchUnited afoot here in South Florida — a movement of churches coming together to live out Jeremiah 29:7, to seek the peace and prosperity of our region. Looking back over the last twelve months we can find tangible examples of unity, renewal, and partnership towards a common vision of seeing God’s Kingdom expanded. Common Goals Make Partnerships For example, in a recent […]

Giving Thanks Even In the Silence!

(Scroll down to leave a comment on what you like to thanks to God for ) Both my study of the Scriptures and my experience as a pastor have fully convinced me of this truth: When heaven seems silent, God is still there, and he still cares much more than we will ever know on this side of the grave. As I’ve said before, we must remember that God always answers every one of our prayers with one of the following responses: YES, NO or WAIT. Now I know we don’t care much for the last two responses from our […]

Nothing but God

Imagine your whole life has just fallen apart in the span of one month. Your business has failed. All your children and grandkids were killed in a terrorist attack. Your wife is so distraught with grief that she blames you for everything and turns against you in anger. You have been falsely accused by the federal government for tax evasion in regard to your bankrupt company, and the media has used this story to trash your once impeccable reputation in the community. And to top it off, your best friends whom you thought you could count on for support, believe […]

Honoring Veterans on a Day of Armistice

The eleventh day of the eleventh month is currently known as Veterans’ Day in America and has been celebrated as a day to honor veterans since 1954. Parades and ceremonies often honor veterans and sometimes other community events are held as well. In South Florida, West Palm Beach is hosting a community celebration on Veterans’ Day with a parade, live music, vendors and a picnic. (www.vetfriends.com/parades/directory.cfm?state=FL). Lake Worth is holding a parade and is currently looking for veterans and other military personnel to participate. Davie is holding events as well. (www.davie-fl.gov/gen/DavieFL_SpclPrjcts/activities#veterans). These events are one way the city governments […]

Dr. Ben Carson Encourages a Renewal of Faith and Family

Dr. Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who ran for president of the United States, visited Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in October to address the challenging topic of racial reconciliation. In introducing the topic, Calvary Chapel Pastor Doug Sauder asserted that the more diverse a church is the stronger the unity is. He described the evening as a family meeting and said, “the thing that unites us, Jesus Christ our savior, is greater than anything that would divides us.” He referred to Galatians 3:28, which states, “…you are all one in Christ Jesus.” While Sauder acknowledged there are differences, he […]

South Florida Supports Disaster Relief Effort to Haiti

Haiti has been struck by yet another natural disaster, only six years after being rocked by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that leveled Port-au-Prince and Jacmel. The same Hurricane Matthew that barely missed the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area and came somewhat closer to North Florida, slammed into the southern peninsula of Haiti as a Category 4 storm, bringing almost complete devastation to many cities and towns, destroying many of the crops in the western plains of Haiti’s bread basket, and killing over 1,000 people. Local pastors and church leaders are stunned by the catastrophic damage of its impact. Streets have become […]

Living a Legacy

Past the privates planes and the slots for rental cars, left of the aquarium before the sparkling carafe of lemon water and just across from the fully equipped business center is a simple office. Physically it is squarely rooted in Fort Lauderdale but once you have spent more than a couple minutes with Don Campion, owner of Banyan Air Services, you would be forgiven for thinking outside his office door is the bush of Egbe, Nigeria. As the story of Egbe unfolds through Don’s words and pictures, the low hum of a foreign tongue seems almost audible as you reflexively […]

Thanksgiving: The Legacy of an Unlikely Hero

Almost four centuries have passed since America celebrated its first Thanksgiving, a day where two distinct groups of people — the Pilgrims and the Native American Indians — put aside their differences and celebrated the Pilgrims’ first corn harvest. As I have begun to learn more about its origins, the story behind the first Thanksgiving seems to be one of an unlikely hero who was able to bridge cultural differences and save a people group from starvation. In some ways there are even lessons for our generation. Fast forward to today and we celebrate Thanksgiving as a day when friends […]

Pray, Engage and Vote

It’s inescapable. The fervor of political campaigning, speech making, debate, commentary, scandal and mudslinging – on both sides of the isle — is enough to make anyone want to escape to a deserted island, isolated from this impending election and the potential consequences for our nation. With our country seemingly more divided than ever and facing so many critical issues, we all long for a strong, proven leader with impeccable character who we can cast our vote for with confidence. Unfortunately, that perfect candidate does not exist… and never has. “All people, whether Jews or Gentiles, are under the […]
