Not Another Christmas

It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year… that is if your marriage is running on all cylinders. But what if it isn’t? Are you dreading the holidays? The Ghost of Christmas Past Close your eyes and think back to your childhood Christmases. Do you smile or cringe? If you smiled, what made them good? The people? The trappings? The food? The smells? Do you long to recreate Christmas past, but your spouse opposes you? If you cringed, was there a lot of pain that you try to avoid or are you now trying to overcompensate […]

Remember Worthy Charities in Your Christmas Giving

Christmas is the season when there is a focus on spreading good will toward men. Many ministries are hoping you will remember to send them a gift as you plan your Christmas giving. In fact, an analysis of the Digital Giving Index found that 31 percent of annual giving occurred in the month of December with 12 percent of annual giving taking place on the last three days of the year, according to Charity Navigator. This is a huge time for many ministries,” said Melodie Stoligrosz, director of client relations for Ministry Ventures, a coaching organization that helps nonprofits develop […]

Watch Your Holiday Finances

Christmas is the time of year to have fun while enjoying the holiday with family and friends. However, the magic can also be extinguished by the mad rush of stressful shopping, vacation planning and other obligations. It’s no wonder that the holiday season is actually one of the most stressful times, especially from a financial perspective. Smart spending and creating a Christmas budget can reduce the financial burden and alleviate some of that unwanted stress.  It’s way too easy to get caught up in the shopping mania of this season and find yourself in a freshly dug hole in […]

Leaders See Things Differently

Leaders are people, like all of us. But there is something different about a real leader. Leaders see things with a clarity that brings life into focus. Leaders see things that other people don’t see. Physical eyesight is one of the five senses. We take special care to preserve our vision. A few years ago the total vision care market in the U.S. generated about 34.5 billion dollars. Eye sight is important. We often use the analogy of sight to express our agreement or disagreement with each other. Sometimes we say that we see eye-to-eye about a certain situation. At […]

Restore Conference 2016 Shines a Light on Human Trafficking

There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today. According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80 percent are female and half are children. Even more alarming is the number of children in foster care who have made their way into the sex trade. The Restore Conference held November 18 at Journey Church in Boynton Beach worked to combat that, shedding light not only on the global effects of human trafficking, but highlighting the issue in our own communities. The conference brought together people of […]

Dr. Ben Carson Encourages a Renewal of Faith and Family

Dr. Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who ran for president of the United States, visited Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in October to address the challenging topic of racial reconciliation. In introducing the topic, Calvary Chapel Pastor Doug Sauder asserted that the more diverse a church is the stronger the unity is. He described the evening as a family meeting and said, “the thing that unites us, Jesus Christ our savior, is greater than anything that would divides us.” He referred to Galatians 3:28, which states, “…you are all one in Christ Jesus.” While Sauder acknowledged there are differences, he […]

Thanksgiving: The Legacy of an Unlikely Hero

Almost four centuries have passed since America celebrated its first Thanksgiving, a day where two distinct groups of people — the Pilgrims and the Native American Indians — put aside their differences and celebrated the Pilgrims’ first corn harvest. As I have begun to learn more about its origins, the story behind the first Thanksgiving seems to be one of an unlikely hero who was able to bridge cultural differences and save a people group from starvation. In some ways there are even lessons for our generation. Fast forward to today and we celebrate Thanksgiving as a day when friends […]

There are 20 known abortion clinics in Broward County, not counting hospitals and private physicians’ offices where abortions are being performed. Today, more than one in three pregnancies in Broward County ends in abortion. […]

Platelets: The New Pink

It’s pink season again. With October being the official breast cancer awareness month, the color pink is in full bloom. But what does wearing pink have to do with curing breast cancer? For some, it is a reminder to have a breast exam for early cancer detection. For others, it is the time to make that donation or raise money to fund cancer research. This is worthwhile, as many of us know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and we pray that these funds can help our loved ones now. Unfortunately, for many of these cancer patients […]
