Wow Date Nights…Mission Possible?

Men, your mission—should you chose to accept it—is to create a WOW date night with your wife. Why? If you and your wife are like most: You are busy with your career(s). You are busy with your kid(s). You are busy watching or playing sports. Your marriage has become routine and lacks vision. You spend more time interacting with your phone than with your wife. Your wife is not as available as you would like her to be. You spend less than three minutes daily meaningfully interacting with your wife.   Are you falling in or out of love? In […]

New Prayer App Invites God into the Action

This may shock you, so hang on. According to many theologians, Biblical research reveals that prayer does NOT change things. Now, please catch your spiritual breath and allow for a short explanation. Praying goes beyond a presentation of problems and troubles. Praying does something else. Biblical prayer asks for God to come on the scene and activate His goodness. The first request of The Lord’s Prayer is “Thy will be done on earth as it is done in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Without asking for His will to be done, God is shut out of the game and kept on the […]

Authenticity – When Image Matches Reality

Every public figure has an image. On a regular basis there is a news story about some public figure where the image is found to not match the reality. No profession is immune to this disappointing and disillusioning event, be it politician, pastor, business person, teacher or whoever. It has been said, “You impress people from a distance but you impact them up close.” Most of us would like to be a better person and have a positive impact on others, especially those we care deeply about. Why is it we so often can’t measure up to our own ideals? […]

Fostering Gratitude

Gratitude has more to do with our reactions to our circumstances than the actual circumstances. Gratitude starts within the heart. How easy to have a pity party and say, “Why me?” Once, I was struggling with despair and a dear friend responded to my self-absorption with, “Why not you?” This truth made me stop and think. I learned (which wasn’t easy or quick) to look at my obstacles as opportunities to see how God wanted me to change, what He was trying to teach me, and how I could foster a grateful heart. Gratitude is a training field requiring time, […]

Affordable Care Act Takes a Bite

Some people say that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is a dog.  Well, for 2016 this dog finally has developed some sharp  teeth.  Maybe you noticed when you did your 2014 taxes this year that you had to pay a small penalty for not having health insurance.  The penalty you will be paying shortly for not having insurance in 2015 may be more than three times  the 2014 amount, and it will more than double in 2016.  Ouch! So what does this mean?  In 2014 if you didn’t have health insurance, you only had to pay a penalty of 1 […]
