On Saturday, December 13, Spanish River Church hosted the 7th Annual River Run 5K Run/Walk, presented by McKinnon Wealth Management. About 525 runners and walkers came out for the event.  Participants ranged from 4 years old to 84 years old. In the inaugural year of south Florida’s first Christian women giving circle, StrikeForce 421 awarded $70,000 in grants to four finalists on November 13. More than 50 women gathered at the historic Stranahan house for the announcement. After reviewing 11 requests, Trees of Hope, dedicted to healing the wounds of sexual abuse and equipping communities to safeguard their children, received the largest sum of $48,000. Well of Sychar, an organization providing counseling and shelter for women and their children who have suffered under domestic abuse, received a grant of $20,000. Close to 200 people participated in the South Florida HEAT (Home Education Athletic Teams) 5K Run/Walk and Family Fund Day on Saturday, November 22 at Markahm Park to raise funds for the FHSAA accredited high school sports program. A Christian based, not-for-profit organization working with homeschooling families, the SF HEAT develops tomorrow’s servant-leaders by applying life lessons available from the interscholastic athletic arena. Staff members from Foresters, an international financial services provider, put together 140 special care packages on November 20 for children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Lauderdale. A “home-away-from-home,” Ronald McDonald House keeps families close together when their seriously-ill or injured children are hospitalized. These special care packages included items such as deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, tissues and shampoo.
