Dreams came true for 50 Broward County foster children in November

ChildNet, a Community-Based Care lead agency that protects abused, abandoned and neglected children in the community, in partnership with other child welfare agencies and local stakeholders, celebrated National Adoption Month with a ceremonial National Adoption Day on Saturday, November 23 at the Broward County Courthouse, during which 50 children were adopted. Currently, there are more than 400 children in Broward County in need of adoption into a loving home and more than 100,000 children in U.S. foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. Since 2000, National Adoption Day events have moved nearly 65,000 foster children into the arms of […]

Give the Gift of Love

My eyes still well up in tears every Christmas as I watch the end of the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” George Bailey has just realized how precious life is, what a beautiful family he has, and then the bank president and local police come to arrest him. That’s when the magic happens! George’s friends, neighbors, and all the people he helped through the years come to his aid. Baskets of money are emptied on the table, people are taking coins out of their change purses, and an entire community rallies around to remind us what is possible when […]

What holiday movie or special do you watch over and over again?

Good News Wants to Know… What holiday movie or special do you watch over and over again?  Is there a favorite scene? My favorite Christmas movie is “Elf” because I love Christmas as much Buddy the elf does. I hope that we as Christians are as excited about Jesus’s return as Buddy is when he hears Santa is coming: “Santa here? I know him!” Beau Heyman, Executive Director, First Care Women’s Clinic   Filmed in a winter setting, the 1993 “Groundhog Day” film with Bill Murray is a favorite packed with a critical life lesson.  I laugh and cry as […]

Thankful To Whom?

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Last November I wrote about the extent to which America’s Thanksgiving celebration bears wonderful witness to our Christian faith. Our Thanksgiving tradition began with the Pilgrims in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Known as “Separatists,” they believed they would never be able to reform the Church of England and decided to separate from it. When persecution dogged them at every turn in England, they fled to Holland, and ultimately set sail for America on the Mayflower, landing on the shores of what we know today as Cape […]

Is Jesus God?

This is the third Google high frequency search question we are considering. While the evangelists and apostles are clear that Jesus is God (several citations will be given at the end of the article), it is best to consider the question through the means that Jesus himself used to introduce his divinity to his disciples: he displayed his sovereignty over the Sea of Galilee. We will attempt to display Jesus’ divinity through the same sequence we see him using in the Gospels. But we begin our discussion with a brief explanation of the Scriptural affirmation of monotheism, the great tenet […]

Eternity In Their Hearts

“Everybody has their thing,” my pastor said during our staff meeting one particular Tuesday as we were going over prayer requests that had been turned in the previous Sunday. A look around the table, I knew we, the staff of our church, were each carrying our own concerns as we met to lift up the burdens of others. We read off each request – failing health, unsaved family members, divorce, job changes – so many heavy weights, each a jumbotron scrolling the same headline: This is not how it’s supposed to be! Eternity in our hearts I think that’s […]

Local Families Make a Global Impact Through Operation Christmas Child

Schools and churches in the Fort Lauderdale area will be among 5,000 U.S. drop-off locations collecting shoebox gifts for children overseas during Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week, Nov. 18-25. Fort Lauderdale families, churches and groups are busy transforming empty shoeboxes into fun gifts filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items. The Samaritan’s Purse project partners with local churches across the globe to deliver these tangible expressions of God’s love to children affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine. For many of these children, it will be the first gift they have ever received. This year, Fort Lauderdale-area […]

Peter

I find it easy to ignore people, and I am good at rationalizing it. I am busy doing “important” work. Many times the filter used is whether it’s convenient for me or not. Sometimes even worse, I subconsciously ask myself, “How does this person benefit me and my goals?” I know, it’s embarrassing. However, God is too gracious to leave us so selfish and will often provide us opportunities to be His voice, hands and feet….and when we do, we get just a small taste of what it means to be in God’s world. Let me tell you a story. […]
