BSO Offers Citizens Academy

Applications are now being accepted for the Broward Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy. The academy is designed to provide participants with an overview of the criminal justice system, the operation of a law enforcement/fire rescue agency and the workings of the BSO Criminal Investigations Unit. Gala Honors Veterans and Raises $200,000 for Mission United

More than 800 people attended the annual Mayors’ Gala held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center to benefit Mission United. Military veterans were also recognized in a “Celebration of Service” that honored nominated servicemen and women from each city in Broward County as part of an on-stage ceremony with Broward County Mayor Tim Ryan. Westminster Academy’s Jessica Nava Wins State Title & Breaks State Record

Westminster Academy swimmers just completed an amazing State Championship in Stuart. Sophomore, Jessica Nava, won the State Championship in the 100-meter butterfly and set a new state record of 53.77. In addition, she was third in the 100-meter backstroke and qualified as an All-American in both events. Sophomore, Johanna Holloway, dove her way to state runner-up in one-meter diving and qualified for All-American status. Veterans Honored at Church Service

Everlasting Life Church in Weston, pastored by Shawn Brower (a retired US Army Special Forces Officer), held a service honoring Veterans on November 8.. About 40 people attended the service, which started with the Cypress Bay Jr ROTC Color Guard marching in with the colors.  They sang several patriotic as well as worship songs.  The church then played the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corps songs and asked the veterans in attendance to come forward when they played their respective song.
