On Thursday, September 24, thirty minutes before school commenced, thousands of Christian students across southeast Florida gathered at their public school’s flagpoles to pray. The initiative was connected to the larger national “See You at the Pole” prayer movement. This year marked the 25th anniversary of this student-initiated and student-led movement. Debutantes exhibited outstanding qualities in scholarship, leadership, community service and finer womanhood at the recent Zeta Cotillion at the Westin Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. In addition to experiencing an evening of royal elegance, the event provided an average of $10,000 in annual college scholarships to participants. In 1954, the vision of the members Fort Lauderdale Chapter (Delta Eta Zeta) was to create a special cultural event for outstanding young women that would focus on their total development, and 62 years later the Cotillion continues to make this vision a reality.
