Why The Church Can’t Be Colorblind

“Perhaps the most powerful weapon we have, in having significance in our life and an impact on the world, is the love we have for each other.”- Rob Hoskins Discussing race, cultural diversity, and equality can be a harrowing ordeal because of all the differing perspectives and opinions on these topics. Especially on the heels of yet another racially charged attack, this time in Charlottesville, VA. Yet, regardless of the challenges to navigate, these are necessary conversations to have if we desire to see wrongs righted, hurts healed and a Church that reflects the heart of God. Don’t be colorblind […]

Thank You First Responder Celebrates Those Who Protect Us

9-1-1 What’s your emergency?  When crisis strikes, we instinctively pick up the phone and call first responders, counting on them to drop everything and run to our aid.  Police officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians take charge when others may panic, defusing violence, putting out fires, rendering first aid and transporting the injured. When calm is restored and patients are in recovery, first responders are on to the next call, often with little or no thanks or fanfare.  It’s what they do every day. These selfless heroes deserve our appreciation, and Thank You First Responder, a nonprofit organization, has […]

Faith-Based Organizations Helping Overcome Opioid Addiction

The nation is facing an opioid epidemic. In May, Governor Rick Scott declared a public health crisis in Florida. Fighting the Opioid Addiction A Community Action Team, comprised of 45 to 50 treatment providers, doctors, community organizations and enforcement officials, is working hard to find solutions. Interdependence is Better than Independence

“Free,” she sang! The short soprano’s powerful voice firmly hit and held such a high note I actually looked up to see if the glass in the chandelier would shatter! We were standing in the outside lobby at the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot at Disney World Orlando. A group of eight professional singers were entertaining us. They were amazing! The presentation included several patriotic songs featuring the different singers one-by-one. The tall lady soprano had a strong lush tone perfect for her part. Next, a short thin man with an amazing high tenor voice rich with tone delighted the […]

Governor Scott Signs Religious Liberties Act to Impact Schools

The last day of the regular Florida State House session, representatives overwhelmingly approved SB 436, the Florida Student and School Personnel Religious Liberties Act. The vote was 103 to 12, though the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) was alone in its effort to pass the law. CFC not only endorsed the bill, but also submitted testimony, testified, and e-mailed supporters about this bill. Though the Florida Student and School Personnel Religious Liberties Act was derided by groups such as the Anti-Defamation League, the Florida Humanist Society, and the National Organization of Women, the Christian Family Coalition prevailed after hearings in the […]

What Should We Expect of Our Preachers?

Show me a nation with weak preaching and I will show you a nation in trouble. Wherever the church is weak around the globe, the darkness appears strong. This is true because “righteousness exalts a nation” (Proverbs 14:34). Identify a country with a weak church and you will likely find several common killers; spiritual apathy, watered down preaching, a corrupt government, violence in the streets and people robbed of their God-ordained dreams. Most of us live in a church environment where we are conditioned and encouraged to discover new and innovative ways of reaching our culture with the glorious gospel. […]
