The Whosoevers

She is young and she is ready to throw it all away. She is tired of the dysfunction and heartache that has followed her all of her young life. Drugs no longer appease her and love has always eluded her. In her desperation, she quietly makes plans to take her own life the very next day. Her grandmother reads her despair and begs her to attend church that evening but church is the last place she wants to be. “All those happy people don’t have any problems,” she tells her. “They think they know all the answers and they don’t […]

Revival Happening in Nepal, India

Missionary Evangelist Daniel King recently held a massive Gospel festival in Surkhet, Nepal where over 7,000 Hindus and Buddhists heard about the saving power of Jesus Christ for the first time. Many renounced the 300,000,000 gods of Hinduism and chose to follow the One True God. In an effort to follow-up on the new believers, Daniel purchased land and helped to build a church building. Daniel says, “Not only did we build a beautiful church building, we also dug a well out front. We are praying that as the local villagers come to get fresh water that many of them […]

Greatest Love Letter

I love getting personal letters.  Nowadays, just about all of the personal correspondence I get is either via e-mail or Facebook and is rarely on paper.  And though the medium of personal communication has changed dramatically for most of us, hearing from someone you care about is always a joy. The church in the city of Ephesus received some personal correspondence, too.  This church had a unique spiritual heritage.  It was founded by Apostle Paul and was then lead for a time by Timothy, Paul’s Life assistant.  Paul would then write a letter to them, what we know today as […]

Stop! Don’t Go There

Have you ever thought of your mind as a physical landscape with many different places to visit? The truth is that there are a multitude of venues in your mind – some of these bring joy and peace while others bring shame, guilt, anger and sadness. Sometimes, we get caught up in cycles where we keep visiting the “ugly” places and replay certain events in our mind, experiencing the same old emotions. If we fail to realize what we are doing, we can become pre-occupied with these places, visiting them often and allowing ourselves to remain miserable and broken because […]

A Lesson for Our Children

There’s a new challenge looming for the American family.  It’s not that it’s totally new, it’s just that our ever-increasing age expectancy is making it more prevalent.  We are living longer, which means the American family is going to be tasked with difficult decisions concerning their elderly parents.  We need to be training our children about this new Life and sacrifice. Families during biblical times knew that their elderly parents were going to be their responsibility.  For most it meant the grandparents were living in their homes during their latter days. In fact, their homes were probably the same homes […]

Spousal Unity in Decision Making

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). Making financial decisions can be hard enough for one person; it gets more complex with two people involved. Each has their own definition of needs versus wants and their own spending habits. While two brains mean more ideas, it also means more conflict. People come from different backgrounds and perspectives on money and finances, and […]

The Blinding of Believers

The devil is on the prowl for unbelievers; he is busily engaged in keeping them in utter darkness. 2 Corinthians 4:4 states, “The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” Satan is on the prowl for the believers too! Scripture is bookended by admonitions to be on guard against our cunning and terrible adversary.  God cautioned Cain, “Sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it” (Genesis […]

Are You Making Wise Decisions?

Everyday we are faced with decisions. Some are extremely important and take time weighing out before choosing a right course of action, while others have very little impact on us and can be made rather quickly. Unfortunately, many of us have made poor choices whether it was regarding a marriage partner, a place of employment, moving to a new city, a business deal, purchasing something, going to college to study a specific field or the people we choose to interact in life with. The list could go on and on. God has a lot to say about making wise decisions […]
