Trinity International University Makes Strategic Moves

2016-10-04-12-13-11-copyTrinity International University (TIU) has announced its second strategic move to improve facilities and expand its local programs in the South Florida area. Last August, classes in Miami-Dade moved from a church site to a facility in Kendall with administrative offices, current technology and the classroom space needed to serve their Miami students. This month the Davie campus is moving to a location in Miramar to better fit their growing needs. These new facilities were designed especially for educational purposes and are expected to enhance the deliverance of all programs.

The new site is conveniently located off of I-75 on Miramar Parkway, making it very accessible from major interstates. Situated in Miramar at 3700 Lakeside Drive, Trinity will occupy the entire second floor, which expands the size and number of class offerings. Ample parking is available for students, staff and faculty.

The move to Miramar will place Trinity in a hub area of Broward, which will help them develop new partnerships and community outreach programs to serve their constituency.

“We are excited about the new learning environment God has provided and remain committed to do all we can do to assist our students to complete the semester well,” said Ileana M. Gil, Chief Operating Officer at Trinity International University-Florida.

Affiliated with Trinity International University, located in Illinois and established in 1897, this strategic move also fits into a university wide “Heritage & Hope: Trinity 2023” campaign. The campaign is designed to advance its mission to ensure Christ-centered faithfulness, refine the work of institutional oversight, develop a coherent, synergistic and strategic approach to leadership, management and administration, and strengthen the commitment to intellectual seriousness and academic rigor while exploring new academic programs, offerings and services.

According to Trinity International University President David Dockery, “This plan is not merely a response to the latest trends or most urgent challenges. It is an attempt to create a shared vision, mission and identity that will take precedence in all things for the gospel message with which we have been entrusted.”

Degree programs

In South Florida TIU currently offers undergraduate programs in Christian Ministry, Elementary Education, Psychology, Organizational Leadership and Business Administration, with the addition of a new program in Criminal Justice coming soon. Graduate programs are offered in Counseling Psychology, Theological Studies and Leadership. The Elementary Education program will be granted a space for a Curriculum Lab to develop various teaching subjects. Graduates of the Elementary education program are eligible for Florida teacher certification, ESOL(English Speakers of Other Languages) and Reading. TIU has also begun to offer courses for Florida teacher certification and recertification.

Through its mission to transform students for Christ, TIU-Florida continues to see the results of offering many different disciplines from a Christian Worldview. “When students are able to view through this lens, employers, the community and other stakeholders see a difference. Whether it is as a school teacher, business owner, organization employee, pastor, ministry leader, therapist or counselor, Trinity students are making a difference within our community and around the world,” said Gil.

Partnerships

Trinity has partnered with many organizations in South Florida and is involved in community services to improve the local landscape. Through partnerships with local churches, scholarship opportunities have greatly increased. Recently, at the Sheridan House Family Ministries yearly fundraising event, TIU staff ran in the Goliath Gauntlet while others volunteered to support this longtime local ministry. Trinity has partnered with the Greater Miami Christian Chamber of Commerce, hosting events to provide local business leaders support and training on “living out their faith in the work-place.” In a move to unite churches and ministries in the area, Trinity has also partnered with Renew South Florida, a church planting organizations, to identify, develop and resource leaders to start new churches. Trinity underwrites Ilumina, a local, yearly pastors’ appreciation luncheon in Miami-Dade where over 500 pastors are treated to a great luncheon, speakers and worship music. Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) has provided local full-time faculty to expand its availability in the South Florida area. And Trinity provides support to local faith-based radio stations and media to encourage and inspire the Christian community.

“With the wonderful new facility in Miramar, TIU-Florida will continue to grow and provide our unique intercultural population for full and faithful participation in God‘s redemptive work by cultivating academic excellence and life-long learning through a distinctive Christian worldview in preparation for service to the local and the global communities,” Gil said.
